Melody felt awkward walking in the guys’ dormitory corridor…All the boys around, who were waiting the time for lessons to start, all of them stared at her as she passed, some whistled, some even made pass at her. She ignored it all, looking down at the small piece of paper in her hand, and dormitory doors.

Melody stopped in front of the one numbered 4e – 1. That was for senior grade students but only one of the rooms reserved for them.

Melody took a deep breath and knocked the door twice. A boy with brown hair and brown eyes opened the door and looked at her. He smiled with surprise and announced back staring at her with fixed eyes “It’s a girl!”

Melody sighed and replied “You seem really experienced with girls, at least you can recognize one” The boys in the corridor burst into laughter and teased with the boy who opened the door. Melody asked “Is Jonathan Weiss here?” The boy didn’t seem upset or resented about what she had said before; he turned around and called inside “Hey Jonnie, it’s your girlfriend!! You really are fast, man” Melody rolled her eyes and he laughed again. Then he got in and someone else got out.

Someone jaw dropping. As he walked out Melody stared at him just the same way the boys in the corridor stared at her a while ago. He was tall and well built. He had long blond hair, some of it falling on his achingly beautiful eyes. His burning, big, blue eyes…His face and body was like a noble yet graceful statue. He looked heavenly. Melody felt a tingling inside of her and all the hair at the back of her neck rose. As he looked down at her, smiling, her stomach tumbled. He asked kindly “Are you my guide?”

Melody realized she was still staring at him her mouth half open. She collected herself and muttered “What? Oh, yeah. I am. I am your guide I mean” He smiled at her again and Melody’s stomach gave a double somersault. He spoke again “Thanks for accepting it. I know it isn’t a very pleasant job to have”

Melody didn’t even remember herself complaining about the job. She was dazed by him and the way he looked. And that was surprising. She was eighteen years old and she had no memory of herself feeling like this. Not even close to this. She thought ‘come on, we just met, you can’t like someone you just met’, but she was still feeling like someone just punched her full in the face.

Melody forced herself to focus, tearing herself apart from his charm and captivity. She spoke “You should take your books. You have a lesson in ten minutes” He nodded right away and disappeared behind the door. Melody stood there not moving an inch until he came back. He was carrying his books in his arms. He walked to Melody and she started to walk to the senior classes’ corridor. They were walking silently in the corridors and hallways. Melody kept glancing up at him. She thought he had something. Something was just different with him. He was extremely handsome and (Melody couldn’t stop herself blushing) sexy. He looked divine. Like he was carrying a power which distinguishes him from any others.

She watched him looking around; interested but not too focused. His bright blue eyes were burning. Melody thought that she was never more attracted to anyone else in her entire life…She closed her eyes for a while to clear her mind. She was way too distracted right now, she could even just fall like that.

Jonathan Weiss smiled warmly. His heart expanding with his happiness and joy. He glanced at Melody. She was wearing a long, black coat which he had seen before. Her straight hair falling all the way down to her waist and over her eyes. Her dazzling, beautiful green eyes. He thought that this mission would be a lot harder than he first thought. She was strong.

Yet she had no idea about the up coming troubles. She was walking slowly her eyes closed. Jonathan smiled again. He knew… he knew exactly what Melody was thinking right now.

Episode VI

Familiar and Unfamiliar

Melody spent her entire next two weeks with him. Doing what she was told to do; which meant guiding him, helping him about school stuff, introducing teachers, showing him the magnificent and huge school buildings. He needed more time than two weeks to learn everything. Both Jonathan and the teachers in the school were amazed and impressed the way how well Melody did her job. What they didn’t know (at least Melody thought none of them did and she was very, very wrong) she had another reason to help him this eagerly and flawlessly. Jonathan was a really kind, easy going, funny person. Yet at the same time he was incredibly smart and deep. Sometimes when Melody looked him in the eye (her stomach performing double somersaults each time she did) she could see how beautiful and deep his soul was. His bright blue eyes (sometimes burning ultramarine) were the mirrors of his soul. Although Melody loved gazing up at his eyes she was forcing herself not to, in the name of keeping what she was feeling to herself. One more time, she didn’t have a clue…

Every day, Melody took him from his dormitory, they had breakfast together, she walked with him to all of his classes during the day, had lunch together, helping him with his homework, sitting with him in the library, having dinner with him then leaving him at his dormitory at night. Every day, they talked more and more. His air and aura seemed more familiar to her yet also some weird way, she knew she never met anyone like him. Jonathan’s existence somehow made life easier for Melody… and also somehow more complicated. There was something about him that Melody couldn’t explain yet it wasn’t making her uncomfortable. Somehow, someway, she trusted him.

The entire school was boiling because of them. All the girls in the school automatically became enemies with Melody. Staring at her with jealous expressions, acting nice when Jonathan was around and acting all the way around when he wasn’t. But guys were a totally different story. After three years in the same school, guys had just noticed there was a girl named Melody and she wasn’t that ugly at all. Boys were eager to talk to her, she even had been asked out by some. That was a true surprise for her.

Her grades were up in the sky, she was more outspoken in classes, joining in arguments, participating in group works. Her teachers were really glad, congratulating her hard work. Mrs. Seri gave her an extra note for her exceptionally beautiful composition she read out loud in front of the class. But her hug she gave to Melody after the class meant more to her.
Melody felt her life was bearable now. Even the lack of her mother…or her father seemed like giving her power so she could go on…She could fight with her life. Almost like…she felt optimistic.

The semester brake came and more than 95% of the students went home, to their lives, families and friends. Melody stayed at school of course. And as she learned with a surprise, a day before the brake, Jonathan wasn’t going home as well. When Melody asked him why not, Jonathan looked at her, his eyes ultramarine again then he answered, “I just don’t need to go home right now.”

Melody searched his eyes but for the first time she couldn’t see what was he thinking behind them. They looked at each other for a while, then the moment it felt different than a usual look at someone, they both looked away.
At the semester brake, maybe because Alex had gone home as well, maybe because they both didn’t have classes, they became closer. Jonathan, who had learned the school very well, was waiting in front of her dormitory door in the mornings. They were talking about casual things, like teachers, classes, students…but one day Melody found herself telling him the worst day of her life.

They were sitting in front of windows which were looking at the lake and the forest. The window frames were frozen and there were ice droops glowing bright under the winter sun which couldn’t produce enough warmth to melt them. The lake was hard as marble and some people who knew how to skate were enjoying it.

Trees were so heavy with the snow they weren’t able to move with the wind. Jonathan touched her hand and pulled his hand back right away. He gazed in her eyes and asked “What had happened Melody?”

Melody turned her head to him and their eyes met. And for the first time in her life, she felt safe and calm…besides that instant movement in her stomach of course. She spoke with a voice a little louder than a whisper “He…my dad…had had an accident. His car was thrown off of a cliff. He fell more than thirty feet.” Tears appeared in her eyes. Gracefully falling down her cheeks but she wasn’t sobbing or hiccupping… She was just taking deep breaths and crying silently. Jonathan felt and irresistible urge to touch her. To wipe her tears away. But he knew that wasn’t the right time to show her how he felt about her. He just held her hand and gave her a squeeze. Then she spoke again “The worst part is…he didn’t die when he hit the ground. No one can explain how but they know he was alive when he hit…because…” She turned her head again to the windows. Looking outside and now falling snow flakes… How easy would her life will be if she was a snow flake…The only thing she would had to do would be to fall… the best thing she can do… falling.

Jonathan looked outside as well and then spoke “Snowflakes vaporize on the ground where they fall…they always rise again.” Melody was too busy in her mind to understand what had just happened. She nodded unconsciously then continued “…because he left a message. He left a message to me…to his melody” tears rose again but she didn’t stop, “He had written to his cell phone… the text page…they found it when they collected his belongings…” Jonathan held her other hand as well and realized she needed to be pushed to tell the rest. He spoke softy “What was it? What was his message?”

Melody lifted her head up and looked at him again…She gazed in his eyes. She wasn’t aware of how she made him feel with that gaze… she spoke for the last time “He… the message…it was… ‘I’m sorry Melody’…not just ‘I am sorry’ so my mom could feel cared as well…just ‘I’m sorry Melody’… I didn’t understand why he had written that… then I understood. He wasn’t apologizing because he couldn’t take me to a movie… he was apologizing because he left me here alone… with my mother… alone”

Jonathan did not stop himself this time. He reached out and hugged her. Took her in his arms and did not let go. It wasn’t about how much he liked her right now. It was about how much he wanted to comfort her… to console her. And Melody hugged back. It was the first time she hugged someone like this since her dad died. She laid her head on his shoulder and they stayed like that for some time. As they parted someone called for Jonathan from the door. He looked up and said “I can’t come now…” But the guy who called him replied “The Principal wants you” Jonathan looked surprised and stood up. But before he left, he turned around and said,

“I’ll be back”

When he left, Melody felt a bizarre feeling. His voice had felt so familiar when he said that. She searched her mind to understand when did she heard it before… was it a dream? She knew they had never met before but right now she was also sure that she had heard that voice telling him that he would be back before.

Comforting her like it did now… Melody repeated in her mind,

“I’ll be back”

The fallowing days passed quickly. Before, time was going so slow to torture Melody with stretching all those painful moments in her life but now it was going so fast she wasn’t even able to understand when the evening came and the entire day ended…

As January ended, fallowed with a cold February, they were spending all the time they had together. Jonathan was never leaving her alone at the breakfasts, lunches and dinners… They were talking and talking and never getting bored. But after a few weeks, 5th of February, Melody noticed something was wrong with Jonathan. He was distracted and edgy. Instant things were startling him. Like someone running in the corridor screaming. Or a snowball hitting at the window they are sitting in front of. She even caught him once not listening to her but looking at some point in mid air with diverted eyes.

Melody wasn’t offended or something. She didn’t think that must have been something about her. She was just worried and she wanted to know if she could help him.

6th of February, they were walking to her dormitory. Now that Jonathan knew the school as well as Melody he had been insisting leaving Melody to her dormitory and then he could go to his by his own.

It was night time and there was full moon. Although it was winter and cold, the sky was crystal clear that night and the moonlight glistening over the frozen lake and the snowy trees was making the scene spectacular and breath-taking. The corridors were drowned in moonlight. The night was also silent. There was no sound except their footsteps and breathing. For the first time they weren’t talking and silence between them felt odd. Still Melody didn’t say anything to pull his mind away from whatever he was thinking. But she couldn’t help herself watching him as they walked. His head was a little down, his golden hair was falling over his eyes and it was moving softly with the wind they made while walking. She found herself thinking how soft his hair would have felt if she had run her fingers through them. She blushed instantly and looked away. Jonathan was awaken by what she was thinking. He looked sideways and saw that she was red. He couldn’t stop himself smiling. Before they came to Melody’s dormitory corridor (because they were both walking really slowly for some reason) she thought she could ask him now. She looked up at him and then asked, “Jonathan I feel like you have a problem. I…well…can I help in anyway?” She asked bluntly.

Jonathan looked at her both amazed and surprised. After some time he replied “It isn’t anything serious. At least not as much as you should be worrying about Melody.”

Melody felt a little rejected and blocked but she did not insist. She spoke again “I just want you to know that I am here for you, if you need me…and…you don’t have to be afraid of telling me bad stuff, of course if you have any…cause I have struggled through a lot and I think, I can handle anything you tell me”

Jonathan thought ‘I wonder if she could handle what I am going to tell her soon. What I have to tell her…What she should be warned for’ The thing that caused Jonathan not to sleep for the entire last week, guarding her…watching her…protecting her. He turned around, facing her and said “I know Melody. It isn’t about not trusting you” Melody looked down and Jonathan understood this was what she had been thinking. He tilted her chin up and said “Melody, look at me.” She raised her eyes. Her bright green eyes now glowing with moonlight and a little big probably because of his touch. Jonathan whispered “I trust you. You probably won’t understand what I mean now but…I trust you with my life Melody Beloven”

Melody gazed in his eyes. She saw the truth in there. He wasn’t lying. He was meaning it.

Jonathan kept looking in her eyes and another irresistible urge hit him. He wanted to kiss her. He wanted to kiss her so bad that his hands were sweaty just with the thought of it. He used all of his will power and managed not to. He didn’t want to mess anything up acting too soon. But then, Melody walked forward and hugged him. She wrapped her arms around his waist and sighed. Jonathan stood there caught off guard. Then he wrapped his arms around her shoulders and pulled her closer. They both closed their eyes and swayed on the spot. When they were parted Melody smiled and looked up at him…and felt like someone slapped her. Jonathan’s eyes were burning bright blue, glowing and the light in them were gushing out. She took two steps back and blinked… and it was gone. Jonathan was looking at her bewildered. He asked worriedly “Are you alright Melody? You got pale suddenly”

Melody nodded. “I…I am alright. It must be the moonlight.”

Jonathan understood what happened and got pissed at himself for not blocking his emotions. She probably had seen the light in his eyes, he thought. But no harm was done. He smiled softly at her and they kept walking. Melody was thinking about what had happened and kept glancing up at him. To catch another glimpse of the mysterious blue light in his eyes. The light she thought she saw in her own eyes. The mirror…her eyes glowing blue…

She shook her head and when they reached the room E-3 they wished goodnight. Melody walked to her bed. She was the only one in the huge room. All of her dormitory mates were gone home and they wouldn’t be back until tomorrow. Five minutes later she was laying in her bed watching the moon outside of the window and for the first time in weeks she noticed the absence of her watcher. Now that she was confused and lost she had thought of someone that could answer all of her questions. Somehow she felt, her watcher could answer anything she could ask him.

Melody’s eyes were closing and she slowly drifted away to a dream. She didn’t notice her watcher was back. Standing next to her bed, giving away his sleep for her…guarding her… watching her… protecting her…
