At the Negima no Ochakai event that was held on May 2008, Ken Akamatsu mentions that if preorders for the first of the OVAs exceeds 50,000, the staff would consider a film adaptation and 100,000 for a third animated series. The counter at the official website is actually the number of orders for all three OVAs. The counter reached just over 82,000 before the first OVA was released. If it was 82,000 before the first one even came out, the counter will definately hit 100,000! Alright! A new season would mean that it is right up to date with the manga!

nice that is awesome but wont the naime take much longer to come out if its up to date and it would mean much more fillers in order for it to not pass the manga

Well it would still take a few episodes to catch up anyway, so maybe not.

Yes going via the anime history, series one ended at the Kyoto Arc so technically they could skip those parts or do a super speedy review of it like they did in this OVA, then start from there. Most fans really want to see the Mahora Festival in particular in detail (as series 2 went its own storyline, and some from Negima NEO!) then our current manga arc. I wouldn't be surprised if he did season 3, again since this is one of the few mangas I can remember in a long time where no anime company did even a half-decent adaptation of...

Let's put it this way too, when series one was made there wasn't enough manga source to do much more, now we have tons of spacing and tons of source for them to do a very long Series 3 even from past the Kyoto arc and beyond. Let's keep hoping because those fights from the Tourney alone would be awesome in animated glory. Ta!

ADDED (from the Wiki summary for Negima) to summarize again this thread's main things via the OVA just released of THREE (I had made an error in the OVA thread saying it was 2):

Shiroki Tsubasa OVAs
A third set of OVAs called Magical Teacher Negima! ~The White Wing~ (魔法先生ネギま!〜白き翼 ALA ALBA〜, Mahō Sensei Negima! ~Shiroki Tsubasa Ala Alba~?) was announced by Ken Akamatsu himself on his website days after the end of the live-action adaptation's airing.[1] Production will once again be handled by Shaft and the entire anime cast from Negima!? will reprise their roles in this new venture. This set of OVAs will cover chapters 176 to 183 (except 181) and will be shown in three parts:

The first OVA covers chapters 176 and 177 and was released on August 12, 2008, together with the release of Volume 23 of the manga.
The second one will cover chapters 178 to 180 and will have a release date of November 17, 2008, along with the release of Volume 24.
The third one will show chapters 182 and 183 and will be out on February 17, 2009 together with Volume 25.
Just like the Negima adaptations by Shaft (i.e. the Spring and Summer OVAs and Negima!?), Akiyuki Shinbo will take the directing helm in this set of OVAs, together with the very same leading animation crew but will closely follow the original character design and storyline.[1]

Also, manga-only characters Albireo Imma and Kotaro Inugami will have their animated debut in these OVAs. In addition, Chao Lingshen will also appear in a flashback of the confrontation between her and Negi at the end of the Mahora Festival arc, again voiced by Megumi Takamoto. She then returns to the future and will not likely have any further appearances.

From the Negi no Ochakai event that was held on May 2008, Ken Akamatsu mentions that if preorders for the first of the OVAs exceeds 50,000, the staff would consider a film adaptation and 100,000 for a third animated series. The counter at the official website is actually the number of orders for all three OVAs. The counter reached just over 82,000 before the first OVA was released.

It's cool though, because if the OVA's end at that chapter, that means that the first or second episode would be them arriving in the magic world...

i believe they should make the 3rd season starting from the beginning because there are a lot of things that were not shown ever like somethings after the Kyoto arc and especially the MAHORA FESTIVAL which might be the best part. And also some people don't know Kotaro or the other characters.

I agree I wish they did the entire anime over, right from the beginning. I like Negima!?'s animation style, (Big eyes) and the same theme as the OVA's (maybe a different remix). If it followed the manga exactly, it would be the most freaking awesome anime ever. Period.
