Critics accuse the US media of cynically manipulating the figures to keep the USA team at the top of the table. In the USA, newspapers have been reporting the table in terms of totals medal won, rather than by the number of golds as the IOC does. This method moves the States to the top. NBC favors this method to give the US an advantage -- thus the leader is no longer the one with the most gold but the one with the most medals. Look at any newspaper, news agency or media corporation outside the US that is analyzing the olympic results and all of them would place China in first place because of the gold medal count. I think it is very convenient that American media is the only one in the world focusing in the total count

Go to any international website and you'll see the the world rank it by the number of golds and ICO rank china the top of the olympic games however americans(yahoo,nbc's) are the only one's to rank the table's differently,why is this?If it were to happen this would not only affect the world ranking table, at least more than 40 countries would be switching ranks including all the events that took place in 2004 and 2000 ect. It is IOC who decides not america,america should follow like the rest of the world and stop finding excuses to remain on top.

Americans believe that silver and bronze should be awarded the same as gold.Would micheals Phelps 8 Gold medal haul be an equal achievement and be mentioned 100x times again if he got 8 Bronze medals instead?

Some american suggest the world(204 countries participated) should use a 3-2-1 point system.

Gold Medals = 3 points
Silver Medals = 2 points
Bronze Medals = 1 point

China
Gold 51
silver 21
bronze 28
Total=100 medals

America
Gold 36
silver 38
bronze 36
Total=110

China has 15 more golds than usa and usa have 10 more silver/bronze medal than china.Do you still even need to know the results? going by the point system china would still lead 3 points.However usa fail to even acknoledge this and hiding some important facts.

Right now the only options left for usa are to keep spamming websites to accuse chinese women gymnastics of being underage.Even though if you type "china cheated" in google you'll see there are plenty of websites that says IOC: No proof China cheated in gymnastics

For the record look at who cheated first.

Beijing 2008 - Former drug cheats in USA squad
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/15072008/58/beijing-2008-former-drug-cheats-usa-squad.html

The USA have included a number of athletes who have previously failed drugs tests in their athletics team for the Beijing Olympics.

Sore losers? It doesn't matter, there are many places where you can access the medal counts.

Did they not make a movie related to the Vietnam war (I think it was with Mel Gibson)? The movie ended with the US winning. =_=

The movie was completely biased.It mostly shows the victory side of americans and all background music showing how heroic the americans were.

when you ask an american who won the vietman war most of them would say "we did" because they watched a freaking american movie

No, that Mel Gibson movie didn't show that we "won". It was based off a real life battalion who fought and survived their battle, not the entire war.

Look its not decided that the media is biased in fact you your self are being biased, becouse there are many people like my self that think only gold counts . Many stations have agreed with my and your perspective that only gold count but admit that its only a matter of perspective and for you to decide. Its been a debate for a long time besides its only a switch between second and first so it dosent matter much.

Who cares how they spun it? Thats what the media does! They lie, they manipulate, they turn things around to favor their own interests! Thats how the world works! Get used to it! And again who cares - no matter how they report it - the # of medals actually won by each country doesn't change!

Yeah but they still made like the americans have won something.Isn't it impressive how mel gibson were able to kill so many vietnamese soldiers by himself?

Americans were the one's who retreated from vietnam in the end.This was all part of true history.

That movie was based off a book. Mel Gibson's character was based off the author of the book. The guy knew we never should have been over there, but wanted to make sure his battalion survived.

I'm against any war, but if you want to go by kill count, America did kick their ass. It was politics that "lost" us that war, a war we never should have been in, in the first place.

I think that you have an ax to grind with America. None of us were around during Vietnam, so it's just all hear say and stories. If you're worried about the Olympics and medals, then, wow....You have way too much time on your hands.

In the end south vietnam was part of north vietnam(communist).The truth remains that american din't change anything vietnam.Of course america will always have their side of a positive story,just like everyone in this world.

I'm not worried about the olympics,I just want to say america can't swallow defeat.

Dude, I'm anti-war, but I wrote a paper in High School about this war. You're Vietnamese, aren't you? It's not a side of the story. In the end, we did pull out, but America killed more Vietnamese then what we lost. That's not a side of the story, that's a fact. Like I said, we never should have been over there, in the first place.
