Americans were the one's who retreated from vietnam in the end. This was all part of true history.

That movie was based off a book. Mel Gibson's character was based off the author of the book. The guy knew we never should have been over there, but wanted to make sure his battalion survived.

I'm against any war, but if you want to go by kill count, America did kick their ass. It was politics that "lost" us that war, a war we never should have been in, in the first place.

I think that you have an ax to grind with America. None of us were around during Vietnam, so it's just all hear say and stories. If you're worried about the Olympics and medals, then, wow....You have way too much time on your hands.

In the end south vietnam was part of north vietnam(communist). The truth remains that american din't change anything vietnam.Of course america will always have their side of a positive story, just like everyone in this world.

I'm not worried about the olympics,I just want to say america can't swallow defeat.

Dude, I'm anti-war, but I wrote a paper in High School about this war. You're Vietnamese, aren't you? It's not a side of the story. In the end, we did pull out, but America killed more Vietnamese then what we lost. That's not a side of the story, that's a fact. Like I said, we never should have been over there, in the first place.

I'm not vietmanese, is true that vietnamese suffered a lot more death than america but if you compare them with weapons/technology and combat experience of course the americans has the advantage and were and more prepared. But the facts also remains that The Vietnam War cost the United States 58,000 lives and 350,000 casualties and for vietman between one and two million Vietnamese deaths. In the end usa were unable to change the politics in vietman. That's the only reason american went to war.

two million deaths.....Shit, That's not a "win" . That's a damned tragedy. There are no real winners in war.

One, they know how to swallow defeat thats why they left in the first place, they recognized it was nolonger worth it to protect south vietnam and left. Swalowed their pride and left wich is what they did, in a war they wernt supose to be in.

As for the movie like he said it was a storie of a platoon of soldiers. In war there are stories like that on bothsides of combat the vietnames side have just as many stories of going to war killing many amaricans and bairly making it back home just like the americans do. War truely has no winners for those who have been there.

Ah, the USA media biased! Shocking indeed!

Sreiously though, the media is biased, but it's not nearly as bad as you guys are making it out to be. I mean, apparently America just can't admit that China actually accomplished something. Correct?

Well, lo and behold. I open my front page to MSN...Click on the link on the front page...And what to I get?

http://www.nbcolympics.com/newscenter/news/newsid=254694.html?GT1=39003

Ah! From the NBC site itself. Well, this article will obviously be some a bunch of biased news praising the USA according to yourself. Ah, but not so fast! The final count: China's gold rush ...Hmm, that's an odd title. Oh wait, this article is actually praising the Chinese! NO WAY!...

Anyhow...here's just a couple examples...

China proved an acquisitive first-time Olympic host, topping the gold-medal chart with one of the most dominating and diverse performances ever.

Overshadowing the entire U.S. effort, however, was a recognition of China's arrival as the dominant Summer Olympics power.

"China has been systematically targeting every single available medal, and we're going to have to do that in the future," said U.S. Olympic Committee chairman Peter Ueberroth.

Ah, and no mention of underage gymnasts either. Amazing!

How does this have anything to do with the medal table? I'm not asking for nbc to wipe china's golden shoes.I'm saying usa or nbc should rank the medal table like the rest of world.Follow the IOC rules and play by the IOC rules.IOC are the one's to decide.

IOC: No proof China cheated in gymnastics

As for china getting gold medal. No surprise there, they've always been the one of the best.China came at 2nd place in 2004 athens.3rd place in 2000 sydney and 4th place in 1996.China has always been one of the biggest competitors and top 5,no one can deny that achievement.

Wow, talk about quantity over quality. Still, it doesn't change the fact that because China is still first because of that gold medal count, so I really don't think they managed to turn the table at all.
In my opinion though, I think people in the America media (esp. Guardian and Times) are the ones to be blamed for this, since they refuse to acknowledge that China managed to get more "points".
They really should consider categorizing instead, America won the most medals, while China won the most number of points. In other words, China "won", because the Olympics is based more on points. Unless the committee changes the system, of course.

I checked again and usa table still remains themselves at the top even the point system should have been done by now,I wonder is this point system is even true. How the hell can you compare china 15 gold medals lead with americans 7 silver and 3 bronze?

Another usa medal table that ranks themselves at the top.

Lmao! a lot of the rankings in the usa table are simply hilarious and 100% unfair.

Example: Armenia is leading slovenia with only 6 bronze medals. Slovenia has 1 gold medal,2 silver medal,2 bronze medal(total=5 medals). How can 1 extra bronze medal be better? even by going to the point system would rank up slovenia a lot more than Armenia.

Not much, but it seems even you forgot the point you were trying to make. It's even in the topic title...

refusing to accept defeat

Ah, you said it yourself as well. In fact, it was the main argument a couple of posts ago.

I'm not worried about the olympics,I just want to say america can't swallow defeat.

Of course, I suppose if you, and everyone else agrees that USA accepts the fact that China did better in the Olympics, then I see no reason why this topic should continue. And yeah, as for the charts. The USA media in general ranks medals like that...I'm pretty sure it has been like that for a while, correct me if I wrong though. However, I do as well find it odd they don't follow the system that everyone else uses. Of course that's besides the point. Medal count or not, the USA have obviously already acknowledged that China did a better job, making the medal chart a useless factor anyhow.

Eh, and furthermore, even if USA never acknowledged China's accomplishes, I don't see why the odd medal chart would somehow correlate to USA not accepting defeat. It's the system they used when it started, without knowing how the games would end. Of course, I will agree with you that they should just follow the uniform system that everyone else follows in future games to avoid any controversy. However, in no way is the USA "refusing to accept defeat".

So, I suppose since we have everything sorted out...We can end this topic.
