These days we have all this wonderful technology [computers :D], medicine [now we can live to be a 100!], and discoveries [ruins, ancient stuff, etc].
Well, science brought us today's world, but will it destroy tomorrow's?
Science led to global warming [indirectly in a way], and is now trying to stop global warming [in a way].
Medicine is prolonging the lives of thousands... and now this small earth is being overpopulated by masses of humans that are on pretty much every piece of land in this world. I'm not saying that medicine is "bad" because it's saving lives, but the human population... is rising to epic numbers. Although without medicine, many would've died by now.
Do you think the end of mankind / world will be because of science? Or do you think science is saving the world from earlier destruction?
Let's hear ye thoughts~

I think science rocks.. science may kill us one day, but I feel it's a "live by the sword and die by the sword" kind of thing.

hmm......there's bound to be some crazy scientists out there who are secretly hoping to "change the world" or whatever. i think science is great, but evil and ignorant thoughts can also lead to destroying mankind. there are tones of movies out there, and even anime (i.e. Elfen Lied) on how science can one day backfire on us. we just have to learn to be less greedy.... and also keep in mind that nature is in this, too. we shouldn't change what God has already created for us (i.e. men being pregnant and stuff), but we should work with the goal to make this world a better place. women can already bare children, what's the point of getting men pregnant too? shouldn't we be putting more money on medicine rather than battling with this sexist revenge thing, saying "men should also know the pain of giving birth!! why do women have to go through so all this crap?"

and about overpoplulating....i don't think medicine is to blame. i think that the best solution to solve this is to adopt more kids and have less biological offsprings. it's a benefit to all the poor orphans out there, too. i mean, there are so many homeless kids out there, but we still keep having more and more babies of our own. it's not a bad thing to desire this, but.....well, you know what i mean.

when i grow up, i'm thinking about only having one child with my future husband, and then adopting one, too. if we all do this, it's like hitting a bird with one stone. we solve the problems of overpopulation, AND homeless kids. that way, you can see what the product between you and your loved one's love looks like, and also get to learn to love someone else's child. it's not THAT bad.....as long as you treat the adopted kid with love equaly with your own. there are even some advantages! like, if the adopted kid falls in love with your biological kid, it won't be full out incest. you don't have to worry about having mutant grandchildren. of course, i meant, IF they fall in love.....

I'm tired of people calling the end of mankind the end of the world. That's the vanity of humans.

Anyways, this question cannot be answered because we do not know what will bring about the demise of the world or humans. And our view of the world is so insignificant, we don't know what's helping or hurting it, or even what helping or hurting the earth is. Our only perspective is of how we will be affected.

well, the end of mankind is pretty much the end of "our world" cause there won't be any humans so... there won't be any world for "us". xD

that's true, the end of the world / humans could be a huge meteor, sun exploding on us, or something else that has no relations to science. But science does seem to be leading to the E.o.W. if you look at it in a way. well, how we are affected is pretty much everything for us. I mean, humans are naturally selfish like any other thing with a conscience. We care about ourselves and none other 'cause that's how humans are... sadly xD.

It depends on whose point of view you see it in, many people think science is destroying the world but at the same time it's saving it. Ultimately though we're all just trying to save ourselves, I don't think a lot of people give a shit bout this "world"

helping to destroy the world

I thought science was mostly for our benefit? Just think for a minute how life would be without science. Yep.. pretty exciting world we'd be living in huh?

more on destroying than helping
Posted 8/26/08
It's both .. but I think it's more to the helping side, =\ Science brings us medicine and tons of other great stuff to live out lives as we like it to be. It's also destroying the world because science can help create destructive weapons and such.

hm...In my opinion this question is interesting and hard to anwser cuz your question has to choose sides, for unknown thoeries of what will happen in the future. Since no one the anwser, its imposible to say...unless you know everything.
I would choose that at the same time science is helping and destroying to world.
There is always a risk, and sometimes a downfall to science, but it can lead to a good cause or a bad one.
