science can both be an advantage or disadvantage, it depends on the person how he is going to use it.

as a scientist myself I agree with this... there is no bad science, only bad ppl abusing good science for bad things

for example, bad ppl are now using computers for viruses etc to cause damage to others, but can the inventor of the computer be blamed for that?...

1) I get a giggle out of people saying science is destroying the world from their computers running off a continuous electrical surge generated miles away in a power plant of some sort. Likely sitting in a well-lit and artificially warmed/cooled room. Maybe that's just me.

2) I would say that science is neither helping nor hurting the world. Science simply is the means with which to explain and manipulate the world around us, and humans use it for whatever humans will. It's humans that are wrecking the place, and even without science we'd be doing our best to follow a selfish and self-destructive path. Before science reigned, we had the powerhouses of religion guiding armies to conquer and destroy as well as leading people to judge and destroy each other. The only difference between then and now is that we have more cool toys with which to destroy ourselves with.

So no, science is not destroying the world, people are. *sage nod*

Science is a tool to explain the physical world.

Science is not responsible for climate change. The sun and gases in the atmosphere is responsible for climate change.

Yes, you can say that CO2 from man made sources such as cars and factories are causing climate change
and global warming...but saying it's science's fault is guilt by association.

Saying science is responsible for global warming is like saying ancient Rome is responsible for the Holocaust because the Romans influenced the German tribes and migration patterns to form a German state.

Science as it is can only help the world by explaining how things around us happen and have us realize that there are explanations for most things that happen. It cannot destroy the world because science is just the information about the world, not how it is put to use. And if something caused by a scientific discovery does destroy the world, I still think that it is better than living in caves thinking that everything is magic.

*grin* But what if it is still all magic, even with all the science and the gadgets?

We do not consider it magic because we know how it came about and how to reproduce it. If you turn on your computer, you do not think it is magic that the screen works because you know there is a scientific principle behind it.
