While some chose to simply create longer humor-strips, others turned to popular girls' novels of the day as a model for melodramatic shōjo manga. These manga featured sweet, innocent pre-teen heroines, torn from the safety of family and tossed from one perilous circumstance to another, until finally rescued (usually by a kind, handsome young man) and re-united with their families.[1

Yuu-pan is right. They are are all female, male mangaka are pretty rare, especially if there is romance in the manga, But seriously, if you love a manga so much, you should at least know what gender the author is!

True, however some of them have sort of tried to pass themselves off as male mangaka (like Motomi Kyousuke), and have managed to fool people pretty well.

Both Motomi Kyousuke and Tanaka Meca are female, but for some reason they both use a male name, refer to themselves as men, and draw themselves as men.

I haven't seen any male mangakas from "newer times" But many shoujo mangaka uses male pseudonyms, even though they are female. Motomi Kyousuke (Dengeki Daisy, Beast master..) Tanaka Meca ( faster than a kiss) Hiro Fujiwara (Kaichou wa maid-sama!\Maid sama!) are all female
