Do you think shoujo mangas are badly drawn?
|
Shounen is the target audience its aimed at regardless of who published it. Suzuka's target audience was boys and not girls so it was shounen and not shoujo. I wasn't referring to Weekly Shounen Magazine which is who apparently the magazine it was published in.

I think they're fine but in 'Special A' the character 'Kei' kinda looks like a girl in the manga.. but in the anime hes good (:

It depends on what one considers poorly drawn...many of the shoujo series I have read do a great job of illustrating. Especially when it comes to the intricate designs on character costumes, scenery and background.

There's ugly character design or cliche design elements [such as too many screen tones, a criticism I see used against shoujo manga in particular] in every genre, I think! There's some wonderfully drawn shoujo series, clean middle of the road ones, and bad ones, just like in josei, shonen, and seinen. I don't think it's locked to a genre in particular, and a sweeping generalization doesn't really accurately sum anything up, lol.

It would always come down to if it style suites the story...which is the over all mood in general of how the story progresses.

Plenty do, The backgrounds are always just random effects, and the eyes.. THE EYES!!!!
I had to stop reading Vampire Knight just because of how poorly drawn it was in the later issues. Some time around when all the fighting started. When there's fighting I'd like clarity in who is hitting whom after all. |

Depends on the artist. I've bumped into a couple of terribad shoujo drawings, but Matsuri Hino's art is simply beautiful. I especially love how she does the eyes.

I think it depends on the publication, if you ask me! Nakayoshi tends to have a bit more variety, wheres Ribon typically all looks the same! Josei is different though, and I prefer the artwork of those.

I like the shoujo look. You can find bad and good styled shounen and shoujo just about anywhere. Like the same can be posed for shounen manga can't it? Some of the stuff I've read was way to focused on inking and creating really flowy action scenes to the point of where I can't understand at all what they're trying to draw...

Truthfully, it depends but some can be considered cute. I think it's usually okay but the plot is very important but what draws people in at first in the art. Some of the art, I just plainly dislike a lot.
