Pornography
Posted 5/12/07
I have a godson and I would have to say that I am definitely against children watching porn. I think porn can and will give young children the wrong idea about what intimacy, love and a healthy relationship really is.

I've been taking a course called Philosophy of Love and Sex in university and we've covered topics such as unusual fetishism to pornography and the main problem with pornography is NOT nudity.

Nudity is everywhere, whether its seen as artistic, commercial ads, educational videos whatever. I think you'll notice that what is missing from sexual scenes in movies in theaters these days is basically penetration. We're shown two (or more) bodies moving together but no penetration.

What is shown in pornography? Penetration. In fact, we see zoomed up close images of the sexual organs being penetrated repeatedly and roughly. The original poster is right in saying that most people already know what the genitalia look like, but that is looking at it from a scientific sense or from a health ed sense, in pornography, you're looking at it in an "object" or "instrument" sense.

And that, is the problem that most people have with pornography. It portrays women (I'm going to just talk about heterosexual pornography here) in a degraded sense, as an object or instrument just to satisfy the men's sexual desires. If you've ever seen pornography, you'll notice that the women instantly give oral to get the man hard and from there, you see the woman being penetrated repeatedly until the man is ready to come. There is no foreplay, no cuddling afterwards, the camera focuses mainly on the penetration and not even that often on the people involved and there's not that main words exchanged either.

The harm in letting younger generation watching this? The audience is mainly men, by seeing pornography at a young age they are influenced to think that this is the reality of sex. They will think that this is what a true woman would act in a sexual situation and that isn't true. They will also be prone to think that women naturally offer themselves just to please a man, that they do like taking it and all that.

It just warps their prespectives on things. Especially since a 30 year old watching it won't know much better, someone younger is obviously more easy to influence.

Yeah I'd say that's the big issue. Degradation of women and developing a warped perspective on sex. I don't think pornography should be banned or anything like that, but I think more effort should be made to restrict. It's really hard now thanks to internet access, and hell, TV now is pretty explicit as well.

Go U.S.

Well here, we kinda let people be themselves and don't force them down through tyranny and dictatorship. Except for our drug issue, shouldn't be illegal.

But, ya know what. In Texas, having certain items and porn on your computer is a federal offense... you go to prison. More presidents like Bush and we won't even know what sex is!

Just read your profile to see where you're from... and I have bad news for you. "Dante" does not mean demon in latin. That would be "diablo" or a variation of that word. Dante is the name of an italian poet who wrote the Divine Comedy, which I'm assuming you know since you've listed your location as the tower of purgatory.

What is your opinion on young people viewing pornography? While the legal age is 18 or older for most countries, this is not something that should define your opinion. I want your opinion on younger people viewing pornography, if it should be legalized for all ages, and what you think of it.
So, why is it a "big" deal that it is only legalized by ages eighteen and up?

Thanks for answering these questions, and thanks for your time. : )

I think the big deal is that so much of it is unnatural and violent. Nudity is natural. Sex is natural, but a lot of the pornographic films and pictures are violent and demeaning.

Tearle posted very well so I won't say so much more since what she says its correct. It falls into the same category of influence of abused becoming abusers - because the abuse is part of daily life, you come to think of it as 'normal' or an accpetable 'solution'. When you view the unnatural type of pornography from a young age, it has an effect on your views towards sex and women (never seen true gay pornography so I can't speak for that, ie whether it shows the same amount of degredation and violence.)

Your welcome.

I don't think most pron is violent, at least here in the west. If your referring to japanese live action porn, then I do believe that is more violent in nature. Women are usually depicted being pain and rape is a common scenario. That rarely occurs in mainstream western porn.

I think that's where some of the misconception. I don't think men really think of being viewed as nothing more than a sex object as being degrading since our sex drives are out the roof.

The thought of several men violently having their way with a woman at the same time would be a nightmare for you average girl. But a group of women violently having their way with a man would be right up on the top of our fantasy list. The whole "can't rape the willing" idea.

You know what, I'm not even going to bother responding to this because you're an idiot who can't tell the difference between regulation and prohibition.

XD Yes, not as good as Plato... but I like his writings.

I thought Diablo meant devil :O

But my dad went to a catholic school and all that and told me that Dante is demon in Latin. Thought that was enough credibility, I am gonna scourge around to find something bout it.

Back to the topic at hand, we need to regulate porn to younger kids... as in no porn. I think that 12 is far to young and 13 is questionable. And seriously, what kind of punishments go out for minors who go look at porn?

yeah i checked an online latin dictionary and dante didn't come up with anything. as far as i know demon and devil are pretty much equivelant...

I'd say impose harsher penalties on those who distribute pornographic content to minors is the best way to regulate it.
