I beleve that you are not born gay. Now through out your life time you get many influences that affect your behavior. Alot of the most major influences are in your childhood- late teens.
If your around alot of people who like a certain kinda of music. You start liking that music. If your around people who love sports you like sports. If your around people that are gay you accept the idea and may become gay.

Look at it this way. When your born are you attracted to anybody? No... when you hit puberty depending on how you was raised, will affect how you think. If you were brought up at the idea that being gay is wrong and nobody has the influence that could turn you gay you'le more than likely not ever be gay. On the other hand if you were brought up with being gay is alright and you have have many influences that are gay you will more than likely be gay.
Over 90% of behavior is learned.

its a choice, u choose to have anal sex, or munch carpets. your not born like that. your not born straight u choose to be straight. its just an excuse to make themselves fully sure whether they are gay or not

i agree! It's their own choice, but it also influence him/her where he grows up!

so your both saying you have the potential to be gay? I don't think so, you didnt chose t be straight, you didnt chose to like the opposite sex and they don't chose to like the same sex...everytime you look at a chick/guy (dunno your sexs), do you say oh i'm chosing to be attracted to this speciman...no I don't think so

^^ Attraction is not getting your penis erect. Attraction is going "ooo I like". Not "OMFG MOAR WHERE IS TEH SAUCE??". And hanging around gay people doesn't make you gay, it can make you realize you're gay/bi, but no make you gay. They're different things completely.

[Edit]: Ughh.. Lilprince you just had to ruin my '^' by posting before me :(... lol

Well personally im straight, although i have nothing against homosexual or bi people. i was brought up not to judge on what a person is but who they are, although im not saying that im perfect and i dont judge at all, because i do, thats just human nature. I think that becoming homosexual or bisexual is simply a matter of the environment you grow up and live in, e.g. if one or both of your parents are bi, chances are you may become bi also, simply because they teach you it isnt a bad thing, if you grow up in a family with homosexual members, or friends that are then chances are you may turn gay, or at least just a little bit.

personal experience: i went to a secondary school that was for all boys, as did most of my friends. some people used to say "ooh an all boys school, how gay" or "wtf? all boys?, you fag" etc etc, but the school itself was respectable and i did know many people already there/going there, so i chose to go. now im just about to finish college, and im still straight, which proves the people saying it was gay or i would become gay are wrong. however, some of my friends from the same year now go to bisexual and gay clubs and openly talk of their interest in bi sex. which proves the people saying going to an all boys school would make you gay. granted, they arent 100% i think, but they still have the tendencies.

although saying this, i dont say that i dont mind gay thoughts and such, i believe that having at least some stops me from becoming totally gay (being a straight guy) - now i dont know if anyone else feels this way, but thats just what i do. in fact, i have sometimes made gay comments to friends about various things but they dont really mind that much, and know that i am straight.

by now you may be thinking that im simply bi - but im not. even though i dont mind gay people (and have bit hit on by a gay guy before) i wouldnt take part in gay sex, im a woman only guy

lol i understand what you mean. I still think that it is a reversal of the natrual order i mean to say everyone owes his/her existance to the union between his/her father and mother. i do not think that homosexual behaviour is an inborn characteristic , or genetic like race or gender. If an exhomosexual existed and its prefrence is in the genes like the human racial characteristics like skin colour, change could not be possible so its clear that sexual prefrence in not an unchangeable trait.

lol i dont like debating with people because i tend chat a load of bullocks. but thankyou for respecting my view

Chat a buttload. That's what I do all the time on CR. And there really is nothing such as a ex-homosexual, they're in denial, or just was dumb enough to think they were one, when they weren't.

For me being gay is a mindset, and effected by your surroundings but fundementally its down to choice i'm not saying that everyone has gay thoughts but the thing is do you choose to allow them to define you, do you choose to accept such thoughts, in hebriliths case he gets gay thoughts all the time but he chooses not to accept them he's made the concious decision that regarding his own sexuality these thoughts are wrong (if that made any sense)

I think being genetically predesposed is rubbish, theres no such thing as being born gay, its a loadda crap. If we're getting genetic with it we are fundamentally animals and sexual relations are for the purpose of reproduction, if you where genetically predesposed to being gay eventually the human race will die out. Which is dumb. We are all born straight

I don't think anything of gay people, the thing is i don't beleive someones sexual orientation defines who they are, its just some thing they do 3 minutes out of the day, big deal.

^ If you think there is no such thing as being born gay, why do you think there is such thing as being born? Imo by your thoughts you're probably the type to think "Nobody is born with sexual preferences". (I don't believe in the "theory", I'm just pointing it out.

And having gay thoughts doesn't really make you gay, or it would be a major head on the news. "I watched gay porn, and after loads and loads of videos, I finally thought it was hot. And now I have sex with men and enjoy it all the time. Also if it's genetic, it won't spread like a disease, it happen it happens. But most of the time gay guys don't have sex with women, and probably if it was a "Born plauge (not saying that you said it was but by the way it's spread)" gay guys would be smart enough to have sex with a female just to keep humanity alive. I'm not saying they'll like it, but nobody that dumb is going to let that kill out humanity. Also there are such things as gay animals, and they do like their gay animal sex.

Okay, I just want to say that while I don't know why homosexuality exists, I definitely know people don't choose to be gay. That doesn't make any fucking sense. Why the hell would someone choose to be gay? Oh yes, I've decided I'll be gay, even though it'll make my life a lot harder, my friends and family will fear for me, possibly look down upon me, and I might even be killed be hateful people. And yet we see people in denial of their homosexuality, living in places where they'll definitely be harrased for their sexual orientation. Yeah, people choose to be gay, that makes sense.

Just to let you know, I used to work with a gay guy. It was pretty obvious after hanging out with him for 4 minutes that he was gay. He didn't tell me he was gay until asking me a bunch of questions to make sure I was comfortable around a person like him. One of the things I remember him saying to me that stands out in my mind is that sometimes he wishes he wasn't gay, even though he has a boyfriend (well last time I saw him but I'm pretty sure they're still together) that he's very happy with. If someone is able to convince me that being gay can be a choice, they better have some pretty good damn convincing.

I'd say people are born straight if they are born with a sexual orientation at all.
I believe that being straight/gay/bi is effected by your personality, how this is effected I don't know but it sure makes more sense then being born that way, or choosing to.

^ if you can't be born gay you can't be born straight either...only thing I've ever seen change while one grows up is skin color, eye color...hair color...

personality has nothing to do with sexuality, it has to do with how you flaunt it or don't, but there are stereo typical ways for straight and gays to act and a lot of ppl don't fall in to either category
Posted 5/23/07
Apparently [and apologies that I don't have proof or links or statistics to back it up] people don't realise their true sexuality until later on in life. So through the ages of about teens to late twenties, possibly, you go through a period of drift where you can "experiment".

But when I announced this to my friends they completely disregarded it and then continued to accuse me of being gay. So not sure whether this point is true.
