hardsubs are subs which come with the drama and softsubs are subs that you have to open. for example if ISWAK were to be a soft sub, when it finish streaming, you can either choose to view the subs in either chinese, english or anyother language.
so like a softsub is kind like when you can choose whichlanguage you want to view the subs in .

softsubs aren't really used to "choose which language you want to view the subs in." I think you're only thinking of it used in Crunchyroll. Hardsubs are encoded into the video itself, meaning you can't edit anything once you hardsub it. Softsubs, on the other hand, are text files (.srt) and you need a softsub program so you can view the subs in the video. I'd recommend VobSub if you use Windows Media Player.

FROM THE FAQ of Silentregrets:

10. Q: How do I view subtitles?
A: Make sure the media file and the subtitle file are in the same folder as eachother. Double check to see that the file names are similar:

example.avi
example.srt

If you are still unable to view subs, it may be that your missing the proper codecs to view subtitles on your computer. Try installing vobsub.
