How would parents answer the typical little kids questions like "where did everything come from?" or "what happens when we die?" No matter what answer they give, they'll be influencing their kids to lean towards one religion or another. If they don't give their kids an answer, they'll get one from one of their friends, or maybe some article on the internet they happen to come by. When it comes to subjective matters like religion, people will tend to stick with whatever they hear first, or what they hear most often. So even if they can't "officially" join a religion until they're 18, they'll most likely practice whatever one their parents follow, or that a majority of adults around them follow.

Also, there are people under 18 who are mature enough to choose what they want to believe, and there's people over 18 who aren't.

that has always been the easy way out for parents - `god made it blah blah`.....just as a santa clause etc. i have no plans on parenthood. if i had to, i would not take the easy way of explanation - i would try to make this individual self reliant and self confident as possible, without relying on a deity. as far as specifics, i couldn't give that at this time.

you do have a point on maturity level, as you do appear to be well above that (especially for your stated age and gender).

Even if they don't say god did it and give some complex scientific explanation, they're still influencing their kid to follow a certain religion (or in that case no religion). My point was that "assigning" religions to people at age 18 would pointless because the kid is most likely going to be following a religion or no religion before they reach that age, and when they do reach that age they'll most likely stick with it.

or maybe the kid would be self confident / strong enough to not be a follower -
that is what i would install into mine. 18 age was just a number that i associated with smoking:
as smoking / religion are both cancers upon society, with freedom of choice to do so or not.

Even if your kid is able to make their own decisions, they'd only be that way because you taught them to be that way, in the same way that most parents teach their kids to follow their religion.

every single fact has interpretation, every interpretation has extremist. If you can't "tolerate" the existence of extremist, let's eliminate what we called homo sapiens.

Lol Goodness the western media got people so afraid of Islam based on lies and manipulation to achieve their agenda in the middle east. I was going to debate with u but when you said all muslim men treat their women like crap then I see you in the same light as other ignorant crunchy rollers who start Islam threads. In the west is there not rape, prostitution, participating in pornagraphy and men beating and treating their women like crap? Arent women being called bitches, whores, hoes in the west? Are we blaming religions in the west for this? So I guess since one person does it that means EVERYONE does it wow people are dumb. I mean ask yourself these questions before you start posting ignorant things. One can only imagine how many pages this thread will get, Let the ignorant flame war begin.

The Koran is boring. I fell asleep while trying to read it once. Plus it's just a bunch of commands. Like how to treat your woman like shit.

No...and the Koran is far from the insipid and racist crap that is Mein Kamph. It doesn't tell you to treat women like "shit" either. Idiots just interpret it that way, and the Islamic authorities do nothing to stop it, because they don't care and think women are worth shit too.

Most holy books are basically commands anyway, even the Bible.

EDIT: I am Christian. I just don't support religion bashing, unless you're bashing Satanism or something.

I'm not bashing anything. I was just telling it how it is. The Muslim people DO treat their woman like crap, and I have done research on the Koran. It is just a bunch of commands. And if you were a Christian, then you would know that no other book is holy. Only the Bible because it is the word of God. And you would also know that the Bible just doesn't tell you commands. In fact, the Bible only has 10 commands. Hence the 10 Commandments. ^^

And just to refresh your memory, Christianity isn't a Religion. It's a relationship with Jesus Christ. ^^

I am a muslim woman, and I am definitely not treated like crap. Women are of high importance in Islam. Do not take cases of radical muslims and apply them everywhere.
If you had done reasearch on the Quran, you would know most of the verses are the prophets lives. You researched it my ass. Just another ignorant 14 year old.

No, it shouldn't be banned. People should have the right to choose whatever man-written book they want to put on their holy pedestal. It's just a bunch of paper bound together, it doesn't hurt anyone. Just because there are crazy people who follow it and misinterpret it to make it seem "evil," doesn't mean that it is (people did and still do the same thing with the Bible).

I didn't see the video, but I have a feeling that it's just a bunch of ignorant religion-bashing.

That was one of the most intelligent posts I have read in a long time, and it was a good deal more realistic than others.

If by research she means she follows Fox News, I have bad news for her.

I'm a Muslim guy, I don't beat up women, I don't even raise my voice against, or insult them. It's a very unmanly thing to do.

Being stereotyped as a wife-beater is .... disturbing.
