When you clicked on this forum link, I’m sure you were probably thinking what a weird title. Lol… that’s very true.. even the mods and I agree on that… but that’s not the point
I’m sure you’ve already read the new updates about how the group is going to work… if you haven’t please go and read it

http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-306364/The-Way-Our-Group-Works.html

The mods and I have decided to start this forum because we’ve realized that we weren’t promoting underrated artists to our fullest potential…
So that’s how we came up with this forum and title “Defining a Good Artist”
So here’s a list we compiled (it’s a bit long but we hope u take the time to go through and read. Also as you read the you’s and we’s don’t always mean you and we… it’s meant to be read in a general sense)

1. Artists should be judged by their talents… not by their appearance ^_^

although its true that the appearance of an artist gives the very first impression, in this group, we’d like to think that the artist’s music is the very first impression
outward appearances do make a statement, but if an artist doesn’t look appealing to you, it shouldn’t affect your judgment on their music and likewise
if an artist is very attractive, that shouldn’t affect your judgment on their music either..

2. Don’t let other factors affect your opinion about an artist

often we let other factors in our lives control the way we think or act. By factors we mean family, friends, forums (that post good/bad about artists), coworkers, and jobs. Family and friends influence you everyday: from what you wear to what you like or dislike. This is the same when it comes to their influences on your musical tastes. It’s always good to consider your own opinions before you take into consideration the opinions of others. Forums can post good or bad about artists. You should be careful about them too, because sometimes you feel the pressure to be like others and to share their opinions. As for coworkers, they too are a big influence. By coworkers, I mean people who work with the artist. Throughout an artist’s career, they may work in many different collaborations with other artists. Those artists may be very popular, or not so. When underrated artists work with such popular artists/idols, we tend to focus more of our attention on the popular artist. Many times, I’ve seen lot so comments that rate artists as good just because they collaborated with an other popular artist. Judge by their talents not coworkers!! Another factor is the jobs of an artist. I’m pretty sure artists have accepted a couple of different jobs throughout their career. For example, singing an OST for a drama. Too often, I see people and myself only relating that artist to that drama. What I mean is, the only identity that you give the artist is that OST in that drama. Explore. I’m sure that artist has other good works out there.

3. Even if you don’t like one song by an artist, don’t be discouraged; there are other songs u can listen to by the same artist that u might like

some artists explore their capabilities by singing different genres of music. Even if you find that they are not suitable for singing one type of music, don’t let that affect your opinion on that artist as a whole. Again explore!

4. Listen to an artist’s songs; not just one but as many as u can… and don’t base your opinions on what you’ve heard others say

sometimes we tend not to think about the artist’s music but just the artist’s name. That’s a bit confusing so here’s an example: sometimes in polls or forums and such (not just in CR) the topic is about an artist or comparing artists. You might have listened to none of the artist’s songs, but you add a comment on what you’ve heard other people say. Well, there’s nothing too bad about that, but its always better to just search up a couple of songs that the artist has sung and listen to them before you form an opinion. Don’t just judge based on what you’ve heard other people say. This goes with comparing artists as well typically in polls. Don't vote for an artist just because you've heard of them, but didn't take the time to listen to them.

5. If an artist makes a mistake, or does something you don’t like, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re a bad person and you shouldn’t jump to conclusions

this happens often to people, including me.
For example:
If an artist sings in a different language (like english) we shouldn’t judge on how well they sing it! I mean singing in another language takes a lot of courage and it’s really hard. Don’t bash the artist just because they’re pronunciation is bad or they don’t sound good.
If an artist lipsyncs during a concert, don’t immediately jump to the conclusion that that artist sucks at singing or is cheating. There might be other reasons for lipsyincing.. so give them the benefit of the doubt
If an artist tries a new hairdo/outlook or new genre of music, don’t start to hate them if you don’t like it. Accept it because the artist has their own lives, and even if it doesn’t suit your taste, you shouldn’t use their new appearance/song against them

6. Go against the flow!!

I’m not saying always, but when you disagree with others about a particular artist, don’t be afraid to say it out. those who hate you because of your opinions shouldn’t be worried about!

and lastly be honest with yourself… it’s your opinion also not just ours!
we’re not trying to force our opinions on you.. I mean these are our opinions and you pick and choose what to listen to and wat not to… but I think we should really try to correct our attitudes so that we can avoid hating artist
I mean we can dislike them or maybe not like them but we shouldn’t bash about them and make mean comments… because they have to have some talent to get to where they are and they had to have put in some hard effort so we shouldn’t talk down on them…

This thread wasn’t posted to offend anyone…
It was simply put here to help continue our love for promoting underrated artists…
And the mods and I just wanted to share our views with all of you out there

We’re really grateful to all your enthusiastic contributing!
So continue to support our group!!
