It is a bit old, but I suggest you to watch Air Tv, It is very good...

Also, I don't know if the kodomo no jikan anime is a very good adaptation because the manga is very interesting despite the lolicon content...

Air TV, yep really really good... I also suggest it, along with Kanon and Clannad...

Kodomo no Jikan too is good... I don't really mind the loli content, but the story is quite interesting... :D

Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan
*Translated title* Beating Angel Dokuro-chan

This show makes blood and gore hilarious. It's bloody violent and hilarious at the same time. Really, it does.

I'll suggest Jigoku Shoujo. Sure, there's not really any gore, but it's got it's good psychological twists, especially in the sequel x3 I'd also like to suggest Grave of the Fireflies, because that movie is one of the BEST anime movies I have ever seen, and I don't think there could be one person who doesn't like it except for the fact that the movie is so sad D:

And even though this is supposed to be just anime, I'd like to suggest Black Sheep as well, a movie that just came to America in the past month or so. It's supposed to be a funny horror film about sheep killing people, but it's really violent/gory too. Me and my brother liked it, so it was a pretty good movie. :x

I suggest 5 centimeters per second. Though I think Higurashi fans would privy more towards Elfen Lied.

i just watched an incredibly disturbing one that i think fans of higurashi would love, its called "shadow star" in english and "naru taru" as the title in japanese, if u look on veoh you should type Shadow star naru taru 1, (and turn off the family filter cus some eps are for 18+ ppl) it starts off like a happy save the world with special creatures type thing but the further you get in the series the more disturbing the show gets, the final ep is incredible, though if ur looking for a good storyline you'll be dissapointed as it leaves alot of questions unanswered (though looking up the manga on wikipedia should be enough to answer questions u may have afterwards)

*ahem* sorry, i just watched the last two episodes and was amazed by the content, but like i said, dont hope for the plot to be explained in detail in the series

Any one looking for something that'll make you think i recomend
Death Note
Serial Experiments Lain
Air
and Elfen Leid

Also i know it isnt anime or manga but for anyone that enjoyed Higurashi i defantly recomend reading Ring, i just finished it today and have copys of Spiral and Loop waiting to be read (yay christmas). It kind of reminded me of a cross between Higurashi and Death Note
