Every forum needs a reminder of how to enjoy yourself safely but I couldn’t find one for CR so here we go! I apologise for how patronising and obvious it is but; better safe than sorry ^-^.

Personal Details
-- It’s advised that you don’t give out your proper name online. Instead you could use a name of your choice or a variation of the one you are called in the ‘real’ world. I would strongly suggest not giving out your full name, including surname.
-- Other details such as your date of birth shouldn’t be shared openly however, if you really want to share your birthday fun, you could change the date of your birthday slightly.
-- Do not give out your home address! Even if you feel you know a person well it is still a bad idea to do this. There is also the possibility that they may share your address with other people (online or real) who could cause you harm. If you live with others then be considerate of them. Would you like them giving out your address to people they’ve never met?
-- If you want to meet up with someone here (or anywhere!) then there are a few things you should do to stay safe. Firstly, arrange to meet them in an area you know well with lots of people around. Secondly, take someone with you; a friend, sibling or a parent. Lastly, tell someone where you are going, who you are meeting and when you will be back.

Photos
-- Keep in mind, when posting photos, that they can be seen by anyone. Although the chances of people finding you from a photo are very slim, you should be aware that it is openly available online- not just to CR members. It is generally a good idea to post ‘decent’ pictures so as not to attract the wrong sort of attention.
-- Notice who else is in your pictures. They might not mind, but it’s sometimes a good idea to check with them and get their agreement.

Other
-- If you’re not using your own computer then remember to log out of CR when you’re done. This may not be necessary depending on the networking.
-- Make sure that your password for CR isn’t the same as other ones of importance. This means that if someone, somehow, gets your password they can’t use it to guess their way into any other accounts you have (ebay, hotmail etc).
-- Remember to be considerate of other members. Don’t ask for addresses or other personal details that could make them feel uncomfortable.

If you have any questions, previous experiences, or have noticed something I’ve missed out then feel free to post ^-^. (hehe after mushroomjays comment i would like to point out that this isn't some sticky attempt- please share any experiences, advice or stories! ^-^)
If you do have any concerns at all then PM a moderator:

Now go! There’s forums to post on, PMs to send and shows to watch! Don’t let the bad members of the online community ruin it for you. As long as you remember the basic rules then CR will stay as safe as it is now ^-^.

Should I not post any avatars that have my face in it then? I'm kind of worried now. We are talking about people who can potentially steal people's identities right?

Awesome advice thread ^_^ it seems I've already broken a key few of those rules, mostly with you and maybe Mauz15 [not sure]. But I know the rules, I just wanted to break them <_<.

On topic!!

Don't agree to things online unless you know the person in real life, or have had a voice/video conversation with the person [msn...]

Don't lean back on the chair when on the forum! You might fall over and knock yourself out.

Spamming will get you assassinated. Don't do it ^_^

@kakashisan23 -

I would strongly suggest not giving out your full name, including surname.
^-^

@kankokujin - it's actually more about general safety when chatting- ie. not giving out too many details. If i can find out more about identity theft then i might add it- i think that's a bit too drastic for CR though! ^-^ If you don't mind anyone on the net seeing your face then having it as your avatar is fine ^-^. I'm pretty sure criminals would need more than a photo to steal your identity!

@ Josey and KuRRopt- ye i think most cr members will have broken lots of them- i just wanted to remind members; expecially the younger ones ^-^.

I wish more younger kids would take these types of advice...so then maybe good sites wouldnt be in jeopardy of being shut down b/c to many kids get hurt...That was a good idea about asking friends and other ppl in your pictures if you can post them b/c I know my one friend would have my head if I ever posted her picture lol

- Don't name your school if your location is already publicised. Got busted by an old school friend this way.

- Don't give out your regular email address. Give the one you use to sign up for membership, newsletters, forums or whatever to whoever asks for it.

- Don't publish photos of yourself with other people without their knowledge. It's important to respect their right to privacy.

- Don't name all your siblings on forums. It's a good way for a local to discover your identity. Also, naming your siblings without their knowledge lacks respect for their right to privacy.

- Don't be so stupid that you'd publish a photo of yourself in a distinctive area or house. I recognised a London-based CRer's house this way.

a few years ago, i didn't know this advice, and was trying online dating.. (doesn't work so well btw)
and we had talked over the phone quite a bit, and I felt like i knew him... well when i went to his place to watch a movie with him and his roommate, i was raped... repeatedly by both him and his roommate... So these rules are good to follow..
