[Edited September 4, 2008]

The day I was invited to a 'girls only' group I was tickled. Somehow while remaining a figure of help and comfort for a dozen 14 year old girls on this site, I had never mentioned or implied my gender to many of them. Because of that, I figured not too many would be aggitated at me joining and being active in this group. After only posting twice with no rejection I figured, no matter what, I'm a guy, I can't be reading this. This is something of a safe spot for girls despite it being open. Instead I chose to offer a service.

I consider myself an 'emotional' person. Raised with three emotional sisters and one very emotional mother, I quickly became a very sympathetic, empathetic, thoughtful, and protective person; especially by male standards. I always felt more in place when talking to girls, but my search for the perfect girlfriend has always kept me separate from being among them. However, being in such a unique position (separate from belonging with guys or girls) I think I have a rather developed view of relationships and how men work in particular.

So my service is this: Impart any knowledge you might want. Anything. About men, relationships, myself, even food if you please. Feel free to PM questions you don't want to be so public.

So go ahead, ask a guy.

Questions Answered (Might be slightly different than what was asked):

Well, it's something. In High School I was part of my school's well known track team. The first year I did mostly sprints (going short distances as fast as possible) and as years went on I switched to long distance competitions. Now that I'm in college I'm not in any teams, but I still run a few miles each day and use whatever other assorted exercises are available at the college. Swimming and free weights aren't uncommon.

Any other questions? Honestly anything about men in general is fine, anything.

Track is fun. When you start out they generally have a 'try everything week' for new members. My school also had something called 'tower hill' which was murder for anyone slightly out of shape. You either sat down half way through or threw up afterward. That was my school though, and I imagine it was used out of tradition. Never the less, it's generally pretty lax as long as you always make the meetings. Don't feel bad if you need to rest (assuming the coach isn't a jerk).

To sum up what you have to do: One type of event at least. You could be a sprinter (common for new comers), a long distance runner, distance jumping, shot-put (or whatever it's called), et cetera. There's normally a lot of events to choose from depending on your school. Mine was the poorest of the state and we had a good selection so you should have some choice.

This can be kinda tricky. A lot of younger guys don't appreciate the value of a commitment. I wouldn't press a romantic relationship too much. Just try to become a closer friend. This shouldn't take long. Just talk with him more, hopefully as close as family. By that point you can mention your feelings and he'll undoubtedly reciprocate. The number one part of a good relationship is trust, and if you get close enough to him where yall can trust each other with almost anything then love is only so far away.

This might take a little patience because young men often don't understand what a good relationship is. You have to show how much he can be connected to someone before he'll date for emotion. I hate to say you need to be patient, but I'd try to work on it for at least a week or two before going in.

Sorry my advice isn't the most specific, but it's hard to find a good boyfriend at your age. It may not be so hard to get one, but it'll be hard to find someone who wants a relationship for anything more than the excitement of a relationship (bragging, new experience, so on)

Well, as always depends on the person, and their age. If you're talking about a boyfriend you're close to then anything to show exactly why you like him. All guys deep down want to be openly appreciated for what they are. If you can somehow compliment him on specific parts of his persona through some sort of created gift that'd surely get to him.

If you want to buy something for him and you have no idea what-so-ever to get, then again try to appeal to his ego. Any sort of clothing or accessory that he might normally be embarrassed to buy is a good choice. Jewelry or other over the top clothing is often hard for a guy to admit he wants.

Basically, no matter the guy; he loves to think others (especially his girlfriend) thinks he's the coolest thing ever (even if it's not true). If you do know something about what he might want you could give more info and I might be able to give better suggestions.

Though I can't say I'm one to know about the popular sport lover guys, I think I can still help. If you guys are really close, then I imagine he doesn't get to be as 'lovey' as he'd like to be because of his peer pressure. A nice private romantic situation could be something of a relax from that pressure. Most guys are pushed to be tough, relatively emotionless beyond excited kinda funny tough guy. Making it more private will give him less to be nervous about, and it may let him be a bit more romantic too.
