License something like intellectual property= FOREVER! It's permanently own to the license holder.

A licensing does expire, therefore, it's not forever.

What would happen if the company that held the license went out of business?

I think that the licensing will expire along with it.

Really? because didn't Geneon go out of business a year ago, yet the anime it had licensed haven't returned to CR

Cardcaptor is one of the older card animes. It also is a shoujo. In the US it was released as Cardcaptors

I love Ergo Proxy. I'm currently trying to find a good gif. of Re-l shooting the autoreiv in the first ep.

Wikipedia states that Funimation now holds to rights/licensing of certain Geneon properities. I don't if this is true, but, I think that's the reason why CR cannot upload Geneon's animes.

The North American anime distributor FUNimation Entertainment has announced that it signed a deal with Geneon Entertainment to manufacture, sell, and distribute "select" DVD titles in North America. Those titles include Ergo Proxy, Hellsing Ultimate, Black Lagoon, Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage, Karin, Kyo kara Maoh! Season 2, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Elemental Gelade, Fate/stay night, Kamichu, the live-action Ninja Vixens work, Paradise Kiss, Rozen Maiden, Rozen Maiden - Träumend, Shana, Shonen Onmyouji, The Familiar of Zero, The Story of Saiunkoku, When They Cry - Higurashi, and The Law of Ueki.

That would make sense.

STOP IT! Stop the whining!

Animes will NEVER be unlicensed unless there's a damn good reason, or the company goes bankrupt, like Geneon... ¬_¬

People claim to love the Japanese culture... Japanese businesses - well, they can get very easily offended, you know. The guy on the front page made a good point.

Let's put it like this. Imagine you're 8 years old again. You (the animating staff in Japan) drew a great picture, and your class, and some other classes (Japan/the internet) love it. However, there's a teacher in a higher class (American licensors) who want to put it up in their classroom (N. American territory) so that more people can see it. Imagine this. The teacher then goes back on you, and says that they aren't going to put it up, without a good reason.

You'd be pretty upset, right?

Stop complaining. If you want anime so badly, BUY it if your internet is a bit slow - if it's fast, then go on, watch it online - last time I checked, CR isn't the only place to watch anime... -_-

I bought a 24-episode boxset of Naruto for £10 today at my local collectibles shop. Notice that. Collectibles shop, NOT a retail outlet like Virgin or Zavvi, where the prices are ridiculously jacked-up. Look around a little. You CAN get anime cheaply.

Licensors are beginning to acknowledge that people don't like paying £20 a time for 3 or 4 episodes. For example, Death Note... I dunno if this is the same in America, but, in the UK, the Death Note DVDs come out every couple of months, and it's about 7-8 episodes on 2 discs. ^_^ And they're quite cheap! £15 for the single DVD, and an extra £5 if you want the figurine with it.

So, in conclusion, quit whining, and look for cheap anime to buy, and acknowledge the fact that other anime websites exist, who show licensed anime!

If you want to watch an anime so bad, just download them. You can even find a lot of licensed stuff online. I prefer to download them since it gives more flexibility and most of the time much better quality.
