Ok, so, lately, I've noticed all over crunchyroll, people have been saying 'mangas' and 'animes' like nobodies business!

I don't know about you guys, but if you watch anime, or read manga, you should know the correct way of saying the name of it. * no offense.*

So I am here to educate!

first we must start somewhere, so, let's start with pronunciation:

Anime is pronounced: 'Ah-knee-may'

Manga is pronounced: 'Mah-n-ga'

Now, as for the plural subject itself: Japanese words have no plural ending, AND IF they did it wouldn't be an American suffix *ex. :houses, lamps, rifles etc...' it would be a Japanese suffix.

So next time, please, before you make anymore of us facepalm, use this teaching *or google it if you don't believe/agree with me.'

It doesn't matter if people pronounce it "improperly" or not. It's a cultural icon, more than anything else, and as long as you understand one another, then there's nothing wrong with it. You don't have to force anyone to pronounce it traditionally, as would a Japanese (even if they originally are Japanese words), because as inculturation would have it, Anime as "Ah-nee-may" ("Ah" as in the A in "All") will eventually turn into "A-nee-may" ("A" as in the A in "apple"). Same with manga.

It may be a little annoyance, but it's certainly not something that needs to be corrected, because, again, this is an issue with linguistic differences. You can either be the die-hard and force people to pronounce it the "true" way, or just be pragmatic about it and accept the fact that these are cultural transformations in the term. The bottom line is that we understand one another. Don't make a mountain out of an anthill.

And as far as your "plural" issue is concerned, it is a Japanese word, but we're speaking in English, so it seems unnatural to try and leave the word in what looks like the singular when you're referring to it in the plural.

Although there is no real rule as to whether or not an "s" should be placed after the word, since it's not an English word to begin with, just understand that some people will opt to place it there just because they're used to doing so in English. Either way, there is no fixed rule as to how to conjugate this imported word in English. I, personally leave it alone.

in French language things are supposed to be used in the sentence with a female gender but in other dialects they change the noun form to change gender .... to be bookish one has to pronounce it right but because of differences in spoken language pronunciation may differ so it does not matter really ... personally i do not care.

Completely irrelevant, chinky.

I'm closing this thread simply because I think it will generate nothing but spam... thanks for the information, though. It was rather "educational".
