People criticize popular anime because they think it's "overrated" and they want to shut the annoying fans up. When you want to have a discussion about anime as a whole, but every answer ends up being about the same few anime...it's freakin' annoying. So people are more critical on popular anime because the fans are annoying.

Also, almost everyone has seen popular anime. There's more likely to be good and bad discussions about it, just because it's something everyone has seen.

Well I love to hate I don't care about the fans though. Naruto pisses people off for many reasons the fact that the worst character in Naruto is in fact Naruto(making you somewhat of a masochist for watching) the literally 100+ episodes of fillers if im not mistaken, Naruto making the best villian in the show at the time Gaara into well just a lame average character, then the series just became about magical eyes so theres almost too much to hate.

A good point to make though is I don't think these anime's really anger the people that haven't seen them that much its more the fans being crapped on.

Other than that it's just lame when people think shows with magical energy blast and such are the best action animes ever made.

i think cause some people dont like what they see, they think it looks dumb, so they just stick with their first inpression of it. like i wasnt to sure if i was gonna like chibi vampire, but when i read it i loved it! same with naruto, it looked weird at first, but after i watched afew episodes i just got into it! so all you people out there who feel you need to critisize a popular anime...don't knock it till you try it!!!!!!!!! (thats not a requset, its an order!!! )

I actually like a lot of popular anime, including Naruto. But I don't fangirl over it in front of people unless I know they like it, too.

It's not really a big deal to me if people don't like the same anime I do. I just wish they wouldn't pick on people who like it. Sure, some of the fans can get a little nuts, but that doesn't mean all of them are bad. Don't hate people just because they like a popular anime.

if anyone noticed that death note was actually pretty popular
then you'd realize not all really popular anime are like naruto or inuyasha
i did give up watching naruto after a while
it just got boring
i think most people don't hate the anime but they get extremely annoyed by everyone going on and on about the same anime
ouran is pretty popular isn't it?

I'm not just talking about Naruto. even with Vampire Knight, it's one of the shows I like but people get soooo aggressive towards you if you like an anime they hate. despite the fact that they haven't watched it, they automatically hate it cos it's popular. and the popular shows are popular becos of one reason - they're good!

Naruto= Filler fest and drawing crap out as long as possible and vampire knight just isn't that good (incest but its ok because they're vampires? wtf!)

Also popular because its good?

Programs like Big Brother (and all its clones), X-factor (and all its clones) and Strictly come danceing/ Dancing on Ice beg to differ

These only seem to get worshiped because of something called the lowest common denominator, put fans of these programs in front of any program that requires the slightest bit of thought to understand (or even just a proper storyline) and its all "whats that?", "whys he doing that?"

In my experience things don't get popular because of quality but because of being of a leave-your-brain-at-home type or in the case of stuff like vampire knight "omg hot vampires *fangirl squeal*"

hmm Code Geass isn't an anime that u can watch without an aktiv brain i think and it's very popular too isn't it?

Its not anywhere near as popular as something like naruto though, it tends to only be popular with communities of anime fans who whatch quite a bit of anime while naruto is often the only anime whatched by some people, so even non-anime fans whatch it and lots of people have heard of it.

For example if you go on an mmorpg like psu you will probably see quite a few characters with naruto names running around but next to no lelouches.

im pretty sure if somethign is overated and people talk bout it alot people tend to get annoyed and not want to see it. There also some people who are really conceited and just dont watch it cause they dont think theyll like it and have to piss everyone off...i mean i know people who dont like naruto and im okay with that u dont have to watch something to not like it. But when someone goes off making fun of everyone for liking something and they dont it drives me CRAZY(it can be other way around when someone likes something and makes fun of everyone who doesnt) I feel pretty strongly about things like that cause i find it very wrong.

Eh, it's really more of the fans than the actual anime itself that gets on people nerves.

Think about it...Naruto gets much...much...much more hate than animes like oh say...Bleach and Death Note. Heck, it gets even more hate than Pokemon. Why? To simply put it, the fans are annoying.

I think popular animes like naruto got popular because they were good in the beginning. I stopped watching naruto because the art got crappier with every season they made. I conclude henceforth that the series now is beeing aired because of money! and only that. That goes for other series as well ... for example bleach, inu yasha, one piece...

My favorite type of anime are the ones who stick to the manga (if existent), and also keep the quality constant at the same level as in the beginning.

I think people hate those so called "popular" animes more because the quality drops rapidly when they reach a certain level of audience.

The fanbase cause all those rabid fanboys and fangirls always annoy the heck out of you talking about it like it's the "best" anime in the world and does retarded things because of it. That applies to Naruto, VK AND ETC.

I also think cause its overrated...

but mainly I think its because, the popular anime series are so long..

naruto
bleach
one piece
gintama
hitman reborn
etc..

and nothing has really happened yet.. they will still go on and never end.. you feel its all the same..

the reason why i don't like popular animes is usually the story trails off and the producers spend more time on what will attract a large group of people instead of whats really important. plot and character development are being ignored. i find this the most at shows that have a bit of "ecchi" characteristics but lack any character development and the story probably ends no where. no change, no confession. just a huge question of "why did i waste the last 5 to 10 hours of my life". " my goddess " had to be the biggest waste of time on earth. also i find that the quality of drawings are becoming worse and worse for a more cutesy approach.

naruto had a great 100 episodes but then they start doing the fillers and they did that for more than a hundred episodes!! if i had to wait every week for that i would kill myself. that was what really lost me but then i was happy that shippuden started but once again the producers decided that fillers would be the correct path to take. why they don't follow the manga that is several hundred chapters ahead is beyond me. also bleach was fantastic untill they save the girl (can't remember her name). then the fillers started happening. less characters and worse plot really lose me.

the reason why i hate "narutards" is because a lot of them claim it to be the best thing in existence. when that is the only show that they watch and they claim it to be at the top of anime creativity. there are so many better shows. it sucks when ill ask some one if they saw death note or evangelion or welcome to the nhk or samurai 7, shows that i think have real substence, just to hear that they have never heard of them and then asked if i have seen the latest episode of naruto.

i agree that people shouldn't be dissing a show that they haven't even watched but it is just bad to only watch a show with a poor story and worship it.
