Yeah i don't know if this thread allready exists or not but i just wanna say that i ain't that interested in playing Thrash and Heavy Metal no more since theres now shitty stuff like metalcore and screamo. Apparently metal used to be good in the 70's - 80's but it's all dissapeared thanks to the n00bs of today. Now other musical genres are beating it in the charts.

... you're 15. Somehow i think most of what you know about the 80s has come from VH1. I don't think you're terribly qualified to speak about it so authoritatively.

The metal mainstream and the metal underground are two very different places. Once in a while a good band manages to pop in the mainstream, but mainstream metal has been pretty mediocre since the early 90s. Even 80s mainstream metal had it's problems (hair metal anyone?), though all the awesome thrash bands helped make up for it. Occasionally a decent band will slip through, but not often enough to rely on the mainstream.

There has been a ton of amazing metal come out since the 80s, none of it has ever graced your radio though. America has even made quite a bit of contributions to the underground metal scene, though Europe is hands down the land of metal. I don't know enough about asian metal to comment on it though (there is a whole thread dedicated to it if that's your cup of tea).

Essentially, metal in the underground has become (mainly) Thrash, Death, Power, and Black Metal (with many subgenre's of each of those). Each one of those of genre's has essential bands worth listening to. If you dig thrash metal, check out some Power Metal. Dragonforce is a band that has enjoyed mainstream success and are damned awesome in my book, and way less corny than many other power metal bands out there.

I was going to post some bands, but just check out wikipedia for articles on the genre's I mentioned, then look those bands up on youtube to see what they sound like.

Ouch. I've never seen them live, just listen to studio stuff. Plenty o' metal bands suck live and are awesome in the studio, and some bands are waaay better live than in the studio as well. Still, I stand by what I said. They're less corny than most power metal out there and I they sound awesome in album format. And if being an arrogant asshole disqualifies the music you play.... well, you're not going to have much metal left in your collection (at the very least, there goes all your megadeth).

Still doesn't change the rest of what I poseted earlier - Metal continued to thrive in the underground after the 80's/early 90's. I don't consider nu-metal or metalcore genuine 100% metal in my oppinion. Back in the day, the underground refused to call it nu-metal since that had metal in the name, and instead opted for "mall-core" since it's many supporters were notorious for fagging up you local shpping malls. I've only heard a little metalcore/screamo, but I think it's based more off of hardcore and emo than good ol' fashioned metal to be honest.

^ Just to be clear, I was partly laughing at their performance, what cracked me up was when one of the guitar players falls, and the others try not to laugh and keep playing....and the title of this thread does not help either.
