Why are people in Korean dramas abusive?
Posted 9/2/08
Don't get me wrong I find it really funny, but what I notice is that especially in school the teachers are I think allowed to hit students? The parents hit their children a lot.

That won't be happening here in Philippines once you hit your student , you won't get out of school alive hahaha.. Parents and relatives will surely fry you up..

I wonder how it feels to get hit in the head..

do u mean it wont be happening now? why did they suddenly change it? cause im pretty sure they do hit them, especially with meter sticks, not in the head though

and as for korean drama's being abusive....it funny and i got a habit from it, so whenever my sister annoys me or do something stupid i hit her in the head, but its only playfully though, kinda like in My Sassy Girl

uhh well it depends on how you were raised...I guess...Because in certain countries its natural for teachers and parents or people who are older and more experience to hit you if you did something wrong or yea. It happen to me while I was growing up....yea...

this practice is really identified with korean dramas.. i always go "OUCH!" everytime they hit someone on the head or hit them with a broom, shoes or some other random thing they happen to be holding at that time... really really weird and definitely unfortunate for the one receiving the beating. tsk tsk tsk!

aside from that.. in korean dramas, people are always talking as if they are shouting or yelling at the other person. it's as if he/she is talking to somebody on the opposite side of the mountain even if that person is just right in front of them. weird.

It's because teachers are very well respected in Korea. If my memory is correct, I think they get the same respect with the parents. *edit* And it doesn't matter too if a student's older than a teacher. Or you're the same age. (like a tutor or something.) You still have to respect them. And as for the seniors-juniors thing, they respect that too. Let's say, if I'm older than you, even if I'm not your sister, I can still hit you. And there's nothing you can do with that. It's just the fact that I'm older than you, and you should respect me. But grandparents get the highest respect. It's like, whatever they say, you have to do it. So respect is highly valued in S. Korea.

Well, that's what my korean friend told me. But this is really true. Respect is really, really important to them.
And they're not abusive; its just in their nature to be like that. And that's their way of teaching or disciplining someone.
