do you still remember this series??? I have recently watched it... it totally blast me away with laughter but in the end it was so touching!.... My favorite Saber is Cherry she is so adorable wahahaha.....

Saber Marionette J
The series, which can be seen as an anime interpretation of the James Brown song "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" as well as the movies Westworld & Mannequin, is set in Terra II, a planet far from Earth. 300 years before the beginning of the story, the human colony ship Mesopotamia suffered a major disaster which killed almost everyone on board. Six men escaped using an emergency pod and managed to land on the surface of the planet. With no means to return or contact Earth, they decided to colonize the planet using genetically modified clones of themselves.

However their equipment was not able to produce female clones from male genetic material, which resulted in an all-male population. To substitute for women, Terra II's inhabitants created marionettes, robots which physically resemble females and fill their role in society, mostly as companions for men. Yet, they are completely devoid of personality and sentient behavior, thus they are mostly regarded as objects and status symbols. Marionettes are also used as general-purpose robots, given tasks such as heavy-labor and combat duty.

The main character of the story is Otaru Mamiya, a regular boy from the country of Japoness whose life is changed by finding Lime (and eventually Cherry and Bloodberry). The three of them are radically different from regular marionettes in that they act on their own free will and seem to have their own full personalities. The three of them also become quite infatuated with Otaru and constantly compete for his affection, giving some trouble to the boy who doesn't really know what to do with three so unusual marionettes.

Meanwhile, the leader of Gartland, Faust, puts in motion a plan for world domination by successfully invading the neighboring St. Petersburg. He also attempts to assassinate Japoness' shogun Ieyasu, though this is thwarted by Otaru's marionettes. Otaru and his marionettes are then drafted to infiltrate Gartland and put a damper on Faust's plans to invade Japoness.

Upon a successful return, Ieyasu reveals to Otaru that his marionettes are so special because they are equipped with the otome kairo (or maiden circuit), which gives them a life-like personality. However, the marionettes still need to "grow" in order to gain the full personality of a woman, and Otaru was chosen as their guardian since he could give them the needed experience via his interactions with them.

Saber Marionette J again(OVA)
The war with Gartland has officially ended, and Terra II has returned to a state of serenity. Otaru and his marionettes have reunited under the same roof and are living a relaxed, uninterrupted life. Penitent for mistreating his Saber Dolls during his reign, Gelhardt von Faust requests through letter that he would like Tiger, Panther and Luchs to live with Otaru to improve their etiquette and culinary skills. Initially the idea is a controversial one, but they all learn to accept each other as companions and settle in a coexistence.

The following day an unidentified thief, locally nicknamed "The Whirlwind Bandit", is found to be responsible for multiple thefts around the Japoness area. This stealthy kleptomaniac turns out to be a marionette by the name, or model number, NSM-X1. Following a brief confrontation with her, Lime's benevolence uplifts the marionette and her personality changes to a more friendly, obsequious one. This convinces Lime that she has a good heart and that her actions were incipient. Her introduction to the group begins rough, but having returned stolen property and feeling remorse, is befriended, unanimously being given the name "Marine".

Saber Marionette J to X
In the early episodes Otaru, Lime, Bloodberry and Cherry are shown leading comparatively ordinary lifestyles, cherishing the peaceful days that dawn on Japoness.

As the story progresses, due to uncanny circumstances, Faust appears once again, much more zealous, brutal and merciless than before, restarting his world-conquering agenda. He is accompanied by his subordinates, the Saber dolls. He is revealed to be a clone of the now introspective, atonement-seeking Faust, the embodiment of a measure taken by Gartland to secure the aspirations of Faust the First.

Later on, as Japoness stirs, more, and even much more sinister and ulterior motives are revealed, and the joint efforts, and investigations lead to the conclusion that Yan of Xian and Dr. Hesse, the former scientist and servant of Faust both have a hand in the matter.

They successfully kidnap the Marionettes and out of pure incidence, they make them lose their memories for a prolonged period, which they use for their own gains later on. The series concerns itself with the return of the Marionettes' memories extensively.

Yan also, but particularly Hesse are shown in-depth only in the end, showing their personal goals and past traumas, which will lead to the one last arc, an epic resolution to the man-machine conflict, with morals of technology and human responsibility.
