I agree that they should be friends when the child is older but some parents know how to raise kids well enough to be able to be friends with them at a young age. EDIT: I take it back, it's not even well enough it's how their child is also influenced ont he outside. If they see this leniance then they may abuse it. Not all kids but many do. Like my wretched cousin. Luckily my aunt and uncle just tell her to shut up when she's being a princess.

It depends on capability in my opinion. I'm "friends" with my dad but I feel like I'm putting up with an annoying classmate with my mother.

Absolutely no, if they did say they wanted to be (just like what my parents told me), refuse them! They don't know the different boundaries of being friends and being a parent to their own children. and I'm really afraid of that. But I do envy those people who have a friendship relationship with their parents

I think parents and children should be friends. Not unless your parents as people are terrible people.

Damn some of you kids are so inconsiderate of your parents' feelings. Understand that one day you're going to grow up and that's when you parents will no longer be parenting you. They might give advices here and there, but you are basically another adult. Not unless of course you still act like some sort of adolescent around them. Wait til you get your own kids and see how it feels like. It might be a little awkward at first but you should enjoy your time with your parents because they won't always be around. One day they are going to die. What then?

Life is lonely and the more friends the merrier. Also, good friends are hard to come by. Then again, you could have backstabbing parents, but hey, you got to be the better person.

I say no, they should be parents first then when their kids is 16 or older then they should be friends. But the parents should make sure that their kids dont really need them financially anymore. Mine werent my friends til I was 25.
Parents can love their child and care for their child, so they get cloths and make sure the child is cared for. But if the child does evil or stupid things, and the parents then punish the child even if it means (like with asian parents) physically punishing their child then the parents love them but they arent their friends.

it actually depends on the attitude/beliefs/culture of the parents and the children.
it does not necessarily mean that a child would do bad or stupid things things if she is close to her parents.

i guess it all depends on how the parents would teach their child.
In fact, my closeness to my parents is the thing that keeps me away from doing nasty things because i know that they trust me and i don't want to break that trust.

I am a very hard headed, spoiled, girl and my parents are my bestfriends (aside from my other bffs).
I talk to them like the way i talk to my friends... with some limitations.
I respect them and they respect me.
