The only thing my parents want to know about me is my grades.

Agree... My mom's a teacher, she was my teacher during 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade... And my dad, he only want to see and know my damn grade.

I saw this in a t-shirt the other day:

"Because of alcohol, I barely remember the last time I saw my dad"

I lol'd

the funny thing is most parents know waaaay more than their kids realize they do, the parents just don't let on - smoking, drinking, drugs, relationships.... odds are, they know

of course there is "know" and "understand"

as i get older i can relate to my parents a lot more so there is more mutual understanding, but there are still some significant differences

you relate to your parents O_O;
I think you big enough for staying away from your parents : /

Well... I've been living away from home for quite a few years now so I don't think that's an issue. When I was in high school, I was almost kicked out of the house several times and was not what you would call a "model child." But over the years I've mellowed out quite a bit and gotten my priorities straight. Once you get out your teens, you'll start seeing life a bit differently and then you'll understand.

I think Mark Twain put it best:
"When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years"

Okk this is understood
I know this was hard but in same time i'm envying you because you living far about your family >.>

Well, perhaps the old man did learn a shitload in 7 years. But really, that was just an attempt at humor (I believe...). So above I've showed one exception. Honestly 14 is still damn young, and an age for respecting your parents. I think a major problem for my parents and my relationship is that they really dont have much of intrest to pass on to me and teach me. So, while I think that little cliche statement is often more or less correct, It certainly is not in my case. I suppose because I have a proper understanding of their ignorance and my own, rater then one created out of emotion and misunderstanding.

Wahwahwah. I think I contradict myself just about every time I open my mouth so I'd be impressed if anybody understands me... but I am curious to know what they think...

Anyway, I think for the most part people merrily go their way believing they truly know people while we only truly know the identities we ourselves have assigned them... I think we make it all up in our heads. Our imaginings may be partially correct and/or they may be partially incorrect... but I think we mostly just imagine what we want to about a person.

i think that its almost a natural thing for the brain to do is to make up a truth that makes you feel better in some kinda way

I don't think anyone can really know you 100%. I'm sure even you don't.

but to use Eros' category...

Eros wrote:

yea, provide some criteria...

like 1-10%: you hardly see them
>50 they dont know what you like to eat, dont know whats going on much in your life, etc.
90%+ they have gps on you, keep track of what sites you visit, etc.
99-100% they keep you on a tether.

To take a stab in the dark I guess around 75%.

I'd say about 40%.
