Ricer is obviously a derogatory term. Automatically makes it bad. Normally applied to a Japanese vehicle make, though any manufacturer's vehicle can become a victim. Usually entails useless crap parts or accessories with no performance value added installed on a vehicle even that is meant to imply speed/power/style and ends up having the opposite effect. I also apply the term to dummies trying to pull some FF crap on public streets in traffic - no surprise that they are usually driving Japan brand "H". And contrary to one of the posts in this thread, there ARE vehicles built to be driven fast - they're called (take your pick) sports/exotic/super cars.

haha

ricer means lots of different things to other people,

to me ricer just means wannabe.

if you drive a civic and you have lambo doors then your a wannabe lambo.

if you have a some car that is auto and put a shift booth on your a wannabe manual driver.

if your car looks like crap then its you but if you try to immitate something and look like crap
then your a ricer

lol.

But that won't stop companies and consumers from tinkering with the car.

No it wont, but hopefully vandalism will. I live in London Ontario, if i see him around here or Toronto, i'll key his car, pop his tire, smash his windows/lights, scuff his rims and break off whatever other parts i can. Cause that's how much be annoys me. :)

JK.. or am i? see you around Ontario, buddy.

And this is why I pay so much in insurance these days. What ever happened to leaving people alone? The day you start paying the insurance and buy me the car is the day you can tell me how I make it look. See ya around.......

supra's,skylines, wrx's evos are all imports also, and they can be riced more than civics/integras etc i know plenty that'll even beat built supras/sti's evos

Some people do not consider evo's, skylines or any listed above rice because they come pretty riced up stock. And since ricers are only classified as putting ridiculous mods on their cars the term doesn't fit.....

Peoples oppinions of Ricers Vary.

In the Racing club im in (we take over windy highways in the dead of night) , theres quite a fine line between ricers and Tuners.

For example, my car (2000 Ford Focus) is lowered, has a body kit, Nice Wheels, and a 2-tone paint job. Tuner.

The Honda Civic next to my car has a wing, some body modifications, and a paint job with loads of vinyls. Ricer.

The Difference?

My car is pushing 260BHP, 0-60 in 4 seconds, top speed of 158mph , the only modification to the Honda's powertrain is to make the exhaust sound like a weed-eater (ok so its not the powertrain even)

Now of course, my definition of a Ricer also includes those who put $4000 rims on a $2000 kia spectra that has 4 body peices, all painted a different color of rust/damage.

So i would have to say that Ricer= Bad, However, if you do it right, you can be in the elite Tuner Class.

Sorry guy, but from the same description you described your car, you came off as a ricer. It was "body kit" that made me believe you're a ricer, on a Focus (not hatin' just sayin'). If it's a race-proven aerodynamic body kit, by all means, go for it. But we don't know that.

If ricer wasn't bad enough, calling yourself a tuner is just as bad, unless you can actually tune. When I say tune, I mean fine-tweak settings.

iono but ricers are people who put things on their cars that do absolutely nothing. also when people try to make their cars look fast when they aren't supposed to be ...like fwd cars...
they make it bad for us tuners because people who don't know the difference label us all ricers.

Whats wrong with a fwd being a race car? FWD are pretty decent platforms too..

1. Yes, the body kit does sound ricer, however it was specifically designed for rally, and at high-speeds it helps stabilize the car. Funnily enough, it doesnt have alot of pizzaz, if i wanted the car to be a show car, there are plenty of other kits i would have chosen, This one however, performs. Like all the other additions to my car, (minus paintjob), i only buy parts that actually improve performance.

2. Tuner, i spend better then 3 hours a day in my garage. tinkering, i have ECU Software on my laptop that measures just about everything i could possibly want to know about the car (hell it even measures my tire temperature), and using that data, i make adjustments accordingly. Each month, i pop better then 500 bucks getting my car Dynoed/Aligned, and replacing fluids/parts. So yes, you could call me a tuner.

Honestly though, tuner seems to have an asian theme to it, where as i prefer american power.
