Personally, ricers are like houses. They can dress them up all they want and annoy the neighbors, only one of them you can drive everywhere so everyone can see it.

Tuners however, make the car look better from my standpoint. Ricers are mainly show, and sometimes there are those that believe they are both and still fail at it. Still, it's just a style. Like clothes. Might as well go out naked so no one can complain.

iono but ricers are people who put things on their cars that do absolutely nothing. also when people try to make their cars look fast when they aren't supposed to be ...like fwd cars...
they make it bad for us tuners because people who don't know the difference label us all ricers.

Whats wrong with a fwd being a race car? FWD are pretty decent platforms too..

well i'm not hating on them i'm just saying that real race cars are normally rwd or awd. fwd was created for comfort and to save gas. =\

- actually old school Mini Coopers raced and won against bigger rwd competition back in the day (rallying). fwd was mainly developed for packaging/interior space efficiency - no large drive shaft tunnel running through the cabin and a lower trunk floor because no rear diff does free up quite a bit of room. but yeah, still don't accept fwd as a performance layout. Ford may change my view if the new Focus RS with "revoknuckle" comes to the U.S. and performs as promised...

But that won't stop companies and consumers from tinkering with the car.

No it wont, but hopefully vandalism will. I live in London Ontario, if i see him around here or Toronto, i'll key his car, pop his tire, smash his windows/lights, scuff his rims and break off whatever other parts i can. Cause that's how much be annoys me. :)

JK.. or am i? see you around Ontario, buddy.

And this is why I pay so much in insurance these days. What ever happened to leaving people alone? The day you start paying the insurance and buy me the car is the day you can tell me how I make it look. See ya around.......

lol i was just kidding you douche baggle.. I dont care if you make good cars look bad, its not me driving it

I know ya were no need to get bitchy

My definitions

Ricer - takes a jap car because they think that just having a honda badge makes it better than anything else. Then put on a very drag inducing body kit and giant wing and add a fart can and JDM stuff. Most ricers do NOT add any performance parts. The resulting car is just...slow.

Tuner - takes a simple, boring car and chooses performance parts within his budget to increase the performance of it while keeping a fairly nice daily driver

Hot Rodder - Takes a car and turns it into an absolute beast in a specific motorsport event usually drag racing. Often the car is no longer liveable as a daily driver due to extreme modifications to the engine or suspension as well as an interior usually stripped of things like a/c and radio.

So ricers = god awful. Tuners are a lot better so long as they aren't trying to be assholes to everyone else on the road. Hot rodders tend to be awesome to watch jst because their cars get so wild. I laughed at a flat black 240sx until it roared away really fast. Saw him later at a local car show where he had a very nice 350 v8 :)

Oh and as to why people beat up ricer cars - stop revving your engine at everyone at stop lights, stop running red lights, stop racing in subdivisions where children play, stop trying (and failing) to do burnouts everywhere, stop blasting crappy music, and for the love of god stop trying to race everyone and we will have no reason to want to smash your little cereal box prize.

one thing i dont like about ricers and its high on my list are the large exhaust that has no use except making sound whats the point of having a car sound like it got 400hp+ when it hardly packs 100 -150 hp

LMAO! It's true! I passed between 2 ricers in Civics trying to speed uphill without even downshifting (V8 FTW!). I heard them drop a gear - and as they receded in my mirrors, they only got louder, not faster. Similar thing happened when I had a POS '85 Buick V6 Regal (NOT GN/T Type) and pulled away from a Corolla GT-S going uphill from a stop light - with 4 wheels and tires in my back seat.

i know, but Borla is more off a highend kit wich produces sound and power, im talking about cheap lowend kits that produce sound but no significant power
