William Shatner - Rocket Man

Yes, that's what Family Guy was referencing for the brats on here who haven't seen anything made before 1995.

Hahaha, I remember seeing Stewie do this in Family Guy. Nice to finally see the source... definitely early Spoken Word. I thought the music in the background took away from his piece a little though.

Did you see any of the videos on the list? And if so... what did you think of them? :)

Well, it's a rendition of an old (well, not at the time) Elton John song, so including some background music isn't too far out of line I think. I think it's amusing just because of how bizarre and terrible it is. Shatner has done some actual spoken word albums which are actually pretty entertaining (a friend of mine showed them to me).

I've never been much a fan of spoken word though I have encountered it from time to time aside from Shatner. Honestly, as soon as I saw Def Jam and Russel Simmons I lost interest real fast in your post, however well put together it is.

Ahh... I see. Never knew Shatner actually created albums of him just speaking like that.

I hope it's not because Def Jam or Russell Simmons are connected with Hip Hop and/or Black Culture that led you to become disinterested.

There is a wide body of amazing slam poets who make Def Jam their home. Their speaking styles are as varied as they are diverse. So I hope you'll give it another shot in the near future. You might just find something that works for you. :)

Whelp, that is all I will say about that. Thank you for your responses azrael. :)

Thanks mahagaek! I agree with you... the ones with the serious issues do leave a deeper impact on the viewers. But I thought it'd be too dreary if all I posted up were serious issues... so I thought I'd spruce it up with a lively, funny bit here and there. :)

I'm glad you like it AJ Well, I'm not too confident with my spoken word abilities, but it is a passion of mine to write and perform them out loud. I'm still searching for my "voice" when it comes to the performance aspect... It'll probably a little while before I'm comfortable enough to post one up of me performing. But be rest assured, it will happen. :)

Oh god, you had to bring that up.

I thought that was more like "I'm William Shatner and I want to make an album, but while attempting to do so I realized that I couldn't sing, but then I had to do it anyway so I decided to just speak the lyrics in a goofy manner instead of singing" and less like spoken word.
