I need skin lightening too. When I look at my face and my body in the mirror you can tell right away that Ive been exposed to the sun. I keep getting darker because I love playing basketball and I'm in the band.

Eh I'm pretty tan.
Hah.
I'm Chinese, so people always think i'm filipino or viet or something.
Which pisses me off X_X

Nothing's wrong with being tan.
In the US + Aus. people would pretty much kill to be tan, so
its okay!

Its just in Asian cultures and african american cultures that pale(er) skin is liked more.

Just stick with being tan. Don't worry if other people think you're too dark.

I have a Native friend who put white powder all over her skin. It's quite sad since she seems ashamed of her race. I would never lighten my skin, I think it's fine the way it is.

If you're of any ethnicity (especially of the Asian kind) you've probably been compared to someone in terms of skin color. I'm (east) Indian and I get compared a lot. In fact just this summer, I went to the beach and got a tan (aka, darker than I already am, when I got back, I saw a lot of my family and a lot of them said I was darker looking. They didn't say it in a bad way, but you could tell they noticed. Also, one of my good friends told me in a joke that if I got any darker I wouldn't get married (again, as a JOKE!!) It was a funny joke, but it got me thinking about how important tone is.

I've been wanting a lighter skin tone for a while now ('specially to cure that tan!), so before I started any treatments (creams, exfoliations, etc.) I just wanted a few opinions of what you all think about skin lightening and if any of you have done it before or have been exposed to it. I realise that it is a huge thing in Asian countries, so if you want to discuss the positives/negatives, feel free to! Because I wanna be educated on this before I do anything that might damage my skin...

I wanna know a few things
-Risks (i.e. CANCER)
-How effective is it? (How long does it take?/Does it work?)
-Preventative measures (To keep my skin from darkening further... like sunscreen i guess?)

BTW, I'm NOT trying to start a race war or color war, I just want a few opinions on lightening your skin

Always look for a natural product.

I know alot of people who avoid going outside because they don't want to get any darker than they are. I guess there is racism within the race and it's so dumb. I've read up on some articles about skin lightening in Africa an that some creams contain some type of bleach that although lightens the skin, it also damages it...i.e, it'll become sensitive to sun light. Kinda like how Michael Jackson now has to be under an umbrella when he's in the sun.

I wouldn't say it's a good idea but if you do decide to do it just be careful and any signs of rashes or burning discontinue use.

your skin looks fine, I dont think you need it. I read some article in a magazine that discussed how dark african woman were trying to look like Beyonce because men prefer lighter skin and used these really dangerous creams that did more harm than good.

I don't have to worry about skin lightening as much as other Asians. I'm Filipino (part Chinese and part Spanish) so my skin is fair but it has a golden glow on it (not like those porcelain dolls!).

But I do use skin whiteners to keep my tone. I live in Cali so I have to watch out for the son.

I'm not recommending this to anyone but my dermatologist/nurse/esthetician recommended that I take Glutathione (can't remember if that's how it's spelled) everyday to lighten my skin. And she makes me put some skin bleaching cream (I didn't buy it from any store, it's prescriptioned) every night before going to sleep to make my skin light and glowy!

Edit:

So far, I'm loving it!
