This is not necessarily true Kagome_e_emo...Firstly, Japan has one of the lowest obesity rates in the world. 3 or 4 % me thinks compared to North America. I live in Canada, so it's about the same. The amount of extra "fat" if you wish, is minuscule on Japanese women because they are small to begin with ! Secondly, there are some 'plump' Japanese women who have the 'thigh touching syndrome' lol.

I for one, am Caucasian and slightly overweight (who isn't really)...I am 5'8 and my thighs touch slightly but not overly, because I am very big boned. It can also depend on you bone structure :)

having thighs that wont touch at the top will do nothing for you except possibly making running easier and boosting your self confidence , and even then, if you're having self confidence issues over something as ridiculous as your thighs not touching at the top, move on. there are plenty of women here in japan who dont have thighs like that. the only men i know who prefer thighs like that are, well, let's just say they aren't the pick of the litter. unless you're a japanese guy. then you only think foreigners are pretty.

It's not being bowlegged its just that they don't have fat there. If you took a knife and chopped off all the muscle and fat around your inner thighs or look at the bones on a skeleton you can see the Thigh gap.

This is a funny question.

All it takes is good diet and exercise.

Is this thread for real ?
A thigh gap has nothing to do with diets, exercise, ... It's bone structure !
I have a thigh gap but I don't work out and I can't say my food intake is really healthy. Other girls do work out and have a healthy lifestyle but they do not have a thigh gap because their bone structure does not allow it. Unless you hunger yourself out, you will not get one if your body is not build that way. I don't understand how stupid you can be if you think that only Japanese women can have this and that western women are too fat. Educate yourselves for God sake ! These topics with retarded comments are making me so sad, because it clearly shows how stupid the newer generations are.

Uh.... It depends. If I stand naturally my thighs don't touch unless I'm like squishing my legs together.

So in other words.... it's not like there's only Japanese women that have thighs like that.
Plus, white people tend to have bigger thighs ^^; it's not particularly a bad thing. As long as you look fit it really shouldn't matter all that much.

Wow, I can't believe there's 41 pages of this crap.

Girls, it's genetic. It's all about the bone structure of your pelvis and hip bones. Some girls have wider hips and therefore a wider gap between their thigh bones leading to a larger gap between their legs, while others have smaller hips and therefore smaller gaps between their thighs. Obviously the size of your thigh muscles and amount of body fat should be taken into account but unless you're overweight there's not much you can do unless you're up for some severe plastic surgery which would most likely leave you a cripple for a year before you were able to walk again.

You're perfect just the way you are.

I'm black, I'm skinny, and I live in Missouri. I am an endangered species because I grew up in a poor neighborhood, and yet I am skinny to this day (that goes for all races who grew up on a less than satisfactory budget in which a daily trip to the corner store was almost the norm). Most of my friends are overweight, either by a little or a lot of pounds. They were skinny when they were younger, yet they are big now. Missouri has a 31% obesity rate (good for about 10th or 11th fattest among all states). I noticed at an early age that the convenience stores only have junk food, while the grocery stores have jumbo sized proportions of junk food. The produce section is also undersized, and people in this forum are saying that it is all in the genes? Open your eyes!!! I have seen all races of women with the gap. If I have to explain why certain countries have more women with the gap, then there is no getting thru to your brain. Japanese people usually eat food that is not healthier, but it tends to have less grease/lard/butter in it. Ever heard of a Luther Burger? Google it to see some of the nonsense that some people eat here. ( You Gon' Learn Today) Some farmers feed cows candy to fatten them up, Monsanto specializes in gene splicing (other than chemical war items, they have a patent for some HUMONGOUS corn seeds), and if the candy don't work, they use (Illegal if you play sports) growth hormones in the livestock (pigs, cows, chicken). Pizza is considered a vegetable in today's schools (lobbyist) because it has some tomatoes in the sauce. Back to the corn....Over 90 percent genetically modified.....Used in feed for over 85 percent of livestock.....If you read the ingredients on any processed food, some type of corn is in it......If you are eating some type of sweetened goods, corn is in it (instead of natural sugar)....Almost all US food has genetically modified corn in it.......The same corn modified to grow larger and resist pesticides that would kill normal humans......And they wonder why the girls are growing breast too soon?

The problem is within the problem. Japan got it right. Thunderthighs is easily preventable. Eat more rice.

Uhm excuse me but I eat pretty unhealthy and my love handles are huge, but my thighs still don't touch... If you want to go on a rant about unhealthy food in supermarkets and grow hormones, etc... nothing wrong with that, but don't tell us it's not genes, because it is. It's all in your hips ! This thigh gap mindset is only good for giving people anorexia. I despise it.
