Dragon Ball was an all-time favorite. It reigned for almost a century and has almost 500 episodes (manga and anime). It was featured in video games, arcades, consoles, websites, t-shirts, stuff toys, action figures, mugs, pillows, etc. Do you think Naruto can surpass Dragon Ball?

very nice pictures, and a wonderful discussion at that!

I think Naruto has already surpassed Dragon Ball in popularity, and will soon pass it in longevity if time allows. Naruto is already one of the most well known anime of its time, if not the most well known. Even non anime watchers I have seen have at least heard the word "Naruto".
Also, Naruto is everywhere. From the anime and manga, video games, novelties, it has expended.

Dragonball is..how do I say this? a groundbreaking anime. You have Akira Toriyama, popular also for the Dr.Slump manga and lending a hand in some game's artwork like the Chrono series. Dragonball has a wonderful set of characters which very very few of them we're disliked. I was born in the eighties and I have watched the series up until like 2ks (so thats basically more than 20 years). Dragonball and DBZ also set off a wave of ideas for action type shonen animes, games, parodies

In short, DB and DBZ are in respective analogies, the basketball to Michael Jordan, the baseball to Babe Ruth and etc, etc.

Epic and Legendary, the dragonball series is its own universe. Naruto, in comparison, is still too small and much of a greenhorn.

B.T.W, DBGT never existed.

Well, it depends on Kishimoto. Naruto is going the right way, but there's still a long way to get there where DB an DBZ are. Only time will tell.

I think Naruto has already surpassed DBZ in popularity but DBZ is still longer than Naruto ... Give it time though

Maybe not in popularity, but in longevity, it will, definitely. Shonen Jump series last for about 13 years.
