Naruto has already had more pages and manag volumes than Dragonball. Don't forget, Dragonball chapters were only 15 pages each. Even though there were more chapters, there was less overall content.

Yes naruto will and maybe already surpassed the Dragon Ball franchise, but the dragon ball franchise of their 500 episodes (or how ever many there are) you could skip 3/4 of them and you wouldn't miss a thing and for this reason that is why Naruto will surpass dragon ball franchise. It simply just has more meaningful content. Also I know for many including myself dragon ball and dragon ball z were the first anime's we watched and for me at least the sheer number of filler episodes ruined it for me, I actually hated the show. The only connection I have to it is the time spent with my father watching every episode. We didn't get to spend much time together when I was younger and the one that we had time for was watching dragon ball z at 8 on ytv before I would have to go to bed.

Naruto's ratings are already better then DBZ overall, and there is more of a story behind Naruto reather then stright fighting after fighting, but it is still going and i do see Naruto will enventually top 500 episodes after all Naruto's original series had about 220 eps. which was more then the number of eps in DB and Shippuden has already got 112 eps published and they don't even seem to be half way done with Shippuden. as far as manga is concerned Naruto already surpassed DB, DBZ in volumes. Naruto is already up there for one of the longest running series with DB, Ranma 1/2, and Bleach seems to be going that route too with 230+ eps.

very nice pictures, and a wonderful discussion at that!

I think Naruto has already surpassed Dragon Ball in popularity, and will soon pass it in longevity if time allows. Naruto is already one of the most well known anime of its time, if not the most well known. Even non anime watchers I have seen have at least heard the word "Naruto".
Also, Naruto is everywhere. From the anime and manga, video games, novelties, it has expended.

I agree that Naruto is huge, but EVERYBODY knows what DBZ is. Even people who don't watch anime have seen a lot of DBZ episodes. I know people who used to watch the show, but hate anime. It's like Pokemon, everyone's seen it, but not everyone who's seen it likes anime. Whereas everyone I know who doesn't watch anime doesn't like Naruto.

The fillers will help Naruto keep going, definetly. And as for the epicness, it's obvious that Naruto surpasses episodes that are mostly composed of people going "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" for 30 mins (powering up). I used to watch it but meh I went off it. Naruto is way better.

Back in the days of dragon ball technology was not as good as it is now so it didnt spread around alot as fast as naruto has since the world is more connected now then back then so

DB is still best and naruto is second

Yea, I do think that naruto has the capability of topping DBZ.

DBZ was great, I watched all of it. It had a great mix of action and comedy as well as some of the greatest antagonists and protagonists ever made. That being said, I still think that by the end of it all that DBZ failed. I dont know if it was from dragging the success of the show on for too many extended seasons, the constant deaths and revivals of EVERYONE and in some cases even entire planets, or the constant extensions to already nearly limitless power levels; but eventually it just got to be a bit much. Basically it all fell apart because the network wanted to push the series too far given its past success', the more they pushed to create new storylines, new stronger and more evil enemies, and with them new stronger powers the more the shows sense of any level of reality slipped out of control.

Naruto has so far been everything positive that DBZ was with very minimal of the negative.

The Naruto story is super super solid, the characters are really well developed (including the antagonists), the story doesnt only focus on fighting but also life and troubles everywhere in between the fights making it even more realistic, and the powers have been kept in check very well.

I know that alot of people have mixxed feelings about characters dying in animes whom are deeply loved and developed but DBZ messed up bad in that area. Naruto is still hanging in their with character deaths. Lets face the facts ppl, the good guys cant always come out alive in reality. Some of the best ppl will undoubtebly become casualties, thats just the way it is and the way it needs to remain. Naurto is a big boy now in shippuden, he needs to stand on his own. If he had the opportunity for Jiraiya, the 3rd / 4th hokage, and others to save him in every fight he would never have to struggle much on his own to acheiv what he has. I miss Jiraiya too, but he was too strong to leave in the show as narutos protector anymore at this point that everything is coming together (akatsuki getting wiped out, main antagonists getting pwned, madara's [top bad guy] plan getting finalized, etc.).

DBZ failed majorly by making death and even planetary devestation a joke with Dragon ball revival.

Now, naruto has came very close to messing things up with revivals up to this point but I believe there still hanging in there with some level of reality (reality for the show not our reality FYI on my meaning of the term)

1. Pain rezzing the whole leaf village... worst case
2. Kabuto's / orochi's mass rezzing technique making the dead their slaves. going a bit too far with this one in the sense that how would it be possible to regain samples from ALL the heros and villains that kabuto rezzes??? not that i dont think they will make for awesome punching bags to the new naruto but its way to unrealistic.
3. sasuke being revived after being struck by eight tails killer bee
4. specifically kakashi sensei being revived by pain's technique when his corpse still had a hole in his head from the nail pain shot him with. ressurections doesn't equal fixxing the nail thru the head imo. Though dont get me wrong, I luv kakashi's character and didnt want him to die in the first place but its taking it a bit far.

I mentioned how the techniques in naruto are better managed than the power increases in DBZ and I stick with it.

naruto: shadow clones --> 1 tail --> mass shadow clone --> rasengan --> 4 tails --> wind element rasengan --> sage mode --> control of kyuubi's power

Goku (and others): king kai power ups --> spirit bomb --> SSlvl1 --> SSlvl2 --> sslvl3 --> fusion (with or without mixing SS into it) --> Gorilla controlled mode (apeshit mode)

Hell, by SS lvl 1 goku was > Freeza (planet killer) which means Goku SSlvl1 > planet destroyer... hell, by gorrilla controlled mode they should be able to blink things into blowing up and think planets into being destroyed if you follow the logic.

basically, I will always love both shows but DBZ failed after awhile... NARUTO PWNS the anime world (or they would if the english dubs didnt sound so gay)

I think they are on the same level. Yeah DBz was out before Naruto but naruto is just as popular.
There both really good shows. But we'll see what happens.

naruto is indeed gd but has way too many fillers/ repeated content simply to make it last longer, where as one piece is almost filler free up to the point where it becomes japanese. Also its nice to be able to watch a program from start to finish in say 3 yrs like avatar the last airbender rather then something crazy like 10- 20 yrs lol. Having said that i watched up to the pain ark in naruto all in one go making the whole thing make a lot more sense as the length does add a lot of depth to the series, the intros are also epic. However length doesnt always = depth bleach is a prime example of this the story is simply horrid, its a really strange situation where the fillers are based after events occuring in the main story line which is still going from the first season after 300 ish epps with very little progression its pratically the same ark just devided up into chunks by the fillers. Havent seen anything to do with dragon ball so cant really coment on weather naruto is better than it or not.

I think Naruto (and even Bleach) already surpassed DBZ. It's more epic and Kishimoto's drawing style is many times better than Toriyama's. But, it's only my opinion
