Here is what I think, this classification came out of nowhere and to me seems to be a word that when a person uses it, it practically screams out poser. I think anyone classifying themselves as emo are complete posers. What do the rest of you think about the word?

Okay then, if that is so then everyone is classified as emo. O_O So then people are just retards to even use the term because it is already aparant that they are alive and have emotions and to keep classifying yourself as such is only completely stating the obvious.

Emo is a genre of music that originated from hardcore punk. It has since come to describe several variations of music with common roots and associated fashion and stereotypes. In the mid-1980s, the term emo described a subgenre of hardcore punk which originated in the Washington, D.C. music scene. In later years, the term emocore, short for "emotional hardcore", was also used to describe the emotional performances of bands in the Washington, D.C. scene and some of the offshoot regional scenes such as Rites of Spring, Embrace, One Last Wish, Beefeater, Gray Matter, Fire Party, and later, Moss Icon (In more recent years, the term "emotive hardcore" has been used to describe the period).

Thats what I think

Emos.....They are those whiny [email protected] looking kids, that you see hangin' at Hot Topic. They wear more makeup than all my ex-girlfriends combined. They all wear their hair like Cloud Strife and look like they're one razor blade away from ending it all.

Yeah....That sounds like a cool group to belong too

I used think of it as a group of people that were emotionally weak and that they were masochists.

But now after doing a bit of research about the origin of the word and where it originally came from, I think of it as a trend that started in the mid 1980's with music, and somehow it's meaning changed over time into the meaning it has today as being suicidal or overly emotional for mainly no apparent reason (and if their was a reason, it would most likely be stupid).

A tenth grader boy broke up with his girlfriend after two weeks of dating, during school he went to the washroom and swallowed glass to try to kill himself. I just recently found out it was a boy who lives right now my street.
