well apparently there is a 2% we all die cause what the machine is made for is an atom smasher because they are trying to use it as a type of time travel to see one billionth of a second of the big bang so there basically trying to recreate it and if it screws up we open up black holes and the entire earth goes bye bye and also types of atoms we havn`t discovered are also going to come out the machine is apparently 35 miles below the surface and the machine itself is a couple miles long so with a 2% chance its highly unlikely we will all die but the fact that there is still a percentage is a little nerveracking

To whomever may be complaining about the end of the world:
Take some of that bitch time and go learn about the physics of it all rather than listening to other whinge-bags bitching about shit they don't know about, you might actually appreciate why people put in amounts of money that you won't even be able to comprehend to make this Large Hadron Collider.

I'm slightly hyped for this, hopefully some results will be attained.

Same here. I just posted this up for the lulz.

Everything is for the lulz. A shame that a majority of the forum don't take lulz. 5/0

One thing I don't get: The scientists expect the collisions to reproduce a "mini-Big Bang" so they can study what happened in the, um, BIG big bang, right?

But the laws of physics didn't exist AT ALL until that point. So, since they are working WITHIN and USING the laws of physics to engineer this recreation, how can they be sure that what they recreate will be ANYTHING like the original?

Doesn't the mere act of observing change particles' behaviors dramatically?

20 hours to go, not bad. Don't think it will be likely that a black hole will emerge, more likely that our scientific advancement will go ahead a couple of miles.

dont worry people, they probably have a time machine ready, so if everything does not go according to plan.. Michael j fox will go back to past yet again and this time he will save the planet while fighting parkinsons disease. Its like "Back to the Future 4"!
