Test your cleverness with free number puzzles, word play, and math games.

1- Using the BrainTracker grid below, how many words can you find? Each word must contain the central H and no letter can be used twice, however, the letters do not have to be connected. Proper nouns are not allowed, however, plurals are. There is at least one nine letter word. Excellent: 32 words. Good: 28 words. Average: 20 words.

E R O
R O S

2- Farmer Stone has 6 pigs, 4 chickens and 3 cows. Farmer Morton has 5 pigs, 3 chickens and 5 cows. How many of Farmer Stone's animals can say they are the same animal as Farmer Morton's?

3- If Fred the Squirrel can find one nut in 15 minutes and Jane the Squirrel can find one nut in 12 minutes. How many whole nuts will they accumulate in a day if they work together. Bearing in mind their daughter, Teresa, takes 20 minutes to eat a nut and she eats all day long!

4- Jake is very odd. He likes balloons, but does not like parties! He likes books, but does not like reading! He likes weeds, but does not like flowers! He likes swimming, but does not like water! Does he like towns or villages

5- During a recent expedition, three intrepid adventurers were left stranded in the middle of the desert with only a crate full of apples. During the night, Alan woke up and decided to hide his share of the apples and hid a third, then promptly fell asleep again. Brian woke up shortly after and also decided to hide a third of the remaining apples and he also dozed back to sleep. Finally, Charlie woke up and seeing the others were asleep, took a third of what was left. Of course none of the adventurers knew of the other's antics, so, in the morning, they shared the remaining apples, each receiving sixteen. How many apples were in the crate originally?

6- After a day picking strawberries I had a basket full. I ate 5 and gave Geoff half of the remaining. I then ate another 3 and gave Simon one third of the remaining. I ate another 6 and then gave Kim two thirds of the remaining. I now had 34 strawberries left. How many did I start with?

7- What starts with an E, ends with an E and usually contains only one letter?

8- Remove seven letters from this grid to leave two numbers.

S F E V E
I N L V E
T E T F E
R O S U R

9- Take the number of days in a leap year, add the number of months with 30 days, divide by the number of loafs in a baker's dozen, add the number of days in March, add the square root of nine, divide by the number of days in a week. Which month are you left with?

10- Three fish have a total weight of 15 pounds. The lightest is one quarter the weight of the other two together, and the heaviest is one pound less than the weight of the other two together. How much does each fish weigh?

umm hbt number 6 is it 54 coz 5+2.5+3 +1.3+6+1.3=20.1
2.5= geoff's half
20.1 ~20
n - 20 = 34
n - 20 +20 = 34 + 20
n = 54 strawberries
is it right ??

ok i have 5 mins for number 5

x = apples at the beginning
a = apples after alans share
b = apples after brians share
c = apples after charlies share

a=x*(2/3)
b=a*(2/3)
c=b*(2/3)
0=x*(2/3)*(2/3)*(2/3)-48
48=x*(2/3)³
48*1.5=x*(2/3)²
48*1.5²=x*(2/3)
48*1.5³=x
x=162

there were 162 apples in the crate originally

number 6

((2*(((x-5)/2)-3)/3)-6)/3=34
(2*(((x-5)/2)-3)/3)-6=34*3
2*(((x-5)/2)-3)/3=(34*3)+6
((x-5)/2)-3=(((34*3)+6)*3)/2
(x-5)/2=((((34*3)+6)*3)/2)+3
x-5=(((((34*3)+6)*3)/2)+3)*2
x=((((((34*3)+6)*3)/2)+3)*2)+5
x=335

335 strawberries

number 10
a = light fish
b = middle fish
c = heavy fish

a=(b+c)/4
b=(a*4)-c
c=(a*4)-b

a=c+1-b
b=c+1-a
c=a+b-1

a+b+c=15

a=15-b-c
b=15-a-c
c=15-a-b

c+1-b=15-b-c
2c=14
c=7

(b+7)/4=7+1-b
4b+ b+7=32
5b=25
b=5

a+b+c=15
a=15-5-7
a=3

answer

light fish: 3 pounds
middle fish: 5 pounds
heavy fish: 7 pounds
