Umm well it doesn't exist now BUT in the anime Britannia wa created on the basis on the British empire, except due to small changes in the real history, the fictional empire came about. The idea of a super king in Britan a.k.a Emperor came about as Britain opted to follow the Gaulish style (Vercingetorix) one absolute ruler. Why the BBritanian empire doesn';t actually own Britian is based on the idea that rather than resisting Napolean, Britain was defeated, that would have led the british army, navy and most of its people to flee to the closest colony or the largest one. America. Which is the central of the Britanian empire. If such a large mass of people moved to America, the American Revolution would have failed, solidifying its rule under Britaish royalty. Taking into account that the British empire oince held dominance over one-third of the world, it is understandable why the anime has chosen to call it Brittania. Another possible reason is that Britain was once the greatest power in the world, the Japs dont like USA because they were nuked and the other three major powers were shunned aside because while they hjave powerful histories, they never really conquered most of the world. Thwe creators however has given Britania the technological power of the USA.
Still, the Chinese Union was created by the belief that since Chiuna is one of the greatest superpowers, it acan be hypothesized that should they wish, they can easily take over surrounding nations. The European on the other hand already exists so the creators didn't need to use theire imagination here. Middle east kingdom-terrorist reign etc. etc.

1. Britannia is an old name for the British Isles. In fact, the name "Britain" is based on the ancient Roman term "Britannia." That is why they sound so similar.

2. On an entirely unrelated note, it is also the name of the fictional world of the Ultima series of PC games.

3. Although the question is legitimate, and genuine questioning is almost always good, it is a little silly to ask here. As such, suddenly (and completely out of nowhere),

And goes all Chuck Norris crazy on this thread. (*Roundhouse TO THE FACE*)

Yes of course it exists.... I'm Britannian after all *rolls eyes*...

On the other hand, if you're linking for a "real world" link to Britannia, that would be North America. If you look at the maps they show you in the anime, Britannia basically covers parts of Canada and the U.S. in majority... and other parts, but I couldn't be bothered with the details...

... otherwise... I think it's time for some remedial geography ...

That is a load of hooey. People like to say that wikipedia is not reliable. What reason do they have to take that stance on the subject? I think that it boils down to the fact that many people simply can't stand the idea that a bunch of dedicated, independent, free-thinking volunteers could come together of their own free will and create a wonderful collection of knowledge that is freely open to everyone. I think that they feel that the project would simply turn into garbage without draconian rules and iron-fisted management. Believe it or not, real work can, under the right circumstances, get done without the meddling of some blasted administration.

I am not the only one who thinks so, either. According to a recent study, wikipedia was found to be as accurate as the Encyclopedia Brittanica, at least in science articles.

See here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4530930.stm

And, for an expert opinion, Professor Cat:

Well, there you have it.
Long live Wikipedia. And Freedom.
