What do you think bionic lenses?

Contact Lenses with embedded Electronics
Scientists at the University of Washington have created contact lenses with embedded electronic circuitry and lights. The lenses have been successfully and safely worn by rabbits and do not obstruct vision. This development brings us a step closer to lenses that could enable us, for example, to zoom in on distant objects or lenses that can superimpose information on the external environment (augmented reality).

Contact lenses with Terminator vision

By Richard Gray, Science Correspondent

An electronic contact lens has been developed that will enable maps and videos to be beamed before the wearer’s eyes.

The bionic lens has microscopic circuits fixed to a flexible plastic. The scientists who created the device say the lenses could eventually provide computer-aided vision similar to that of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s robotic character in the Terminator films.

Drivers and pilots would have essential information - their speed and direction, for example - superimposed in front of their eyes, in a massive advance on the kind of “wearable displays” now available, which are spectacles that have images displayed on the lenses.

A prototype of the lens has been built, with light-emitting diodes - LEDs - embedded in it to flash up information. Its built-in antenna will use wireless technology, similar to that used in the home, to beam information to the lens, allowing wearers to surf the internet without taking their eyes off the world around them.

Babak Parviz, the electrical engineer behind the project at the University of Washington, said: “We have demonstrated some of the key technologies required to make a sophisticated functional contact lens. We hope to hook up a wireless link… for updating images and reporting the state of the lens.”

Technology; Chill. We're still not going to use those Bionic Thingy's until Hitler was revived and is making his own Talk Show.

if they ever make a set of lenses that give me optic blasts, then I want those....

will kinda be hard to use...what if you acidently put em on upside down and u will have to keep adjusting to it

are you supposed to charge them like batteries?

the idea is cool but i still think its far from reality

It'll be awesome having 'Terminator' Vision

'POSSIBLE RESPONSE: YES/NO; OR WHAT?; GO AWAY; PLEASE COME BACK LATER; FUCK YOU, ASSHOLE; FUCK YOU']

Fuck you, asshole.

I loved that scene....

My main concern about that is how do you recharge something that small? I would assume something that small would be difficult to charge with a suitable amount of power.

=unbelievably hot technology. They state in the press release that lenses with a few pixels could be available “fairly quickly”, the goal being to power them by a combination of radio-frequency power and solar panels placed on the lens outside- and around the iris.

maybe it can be human-powered = 3= I've always thought that to be an interesting idea... should go and develop these things

lol solar and radio powered? well hope they can find a way to power them, unless you go in a cave, then solar wouldn't work nor could radio frequencies reach the lens
