As you know this group is dead. It's just us mods. If you want it back up again, here's a few steps.

1. Don't start bickering again. Delete old bicker-spam.

2. Steer the group in a new direction. We'll talk about that in a bit.

3. Delete old topics that are irrelevant to the new direction or just completely not popular. [Less than 5 replies]

4. Revive old topics that are either really successful or pertain to the new direction by deleting dead end posts [posts that are not inquisitive or informative by nature and thus posts that are not replyable and making new posts that lead to discussion and therefore rebooting the dead topics that have been spammed.

5. Make new topics that adhere to the new direction of the group and that easily warrant discussion.

The Proposal: This group is inherently about blades; Swords in particular; And therefore Swordsman. It was originally conceived as "Blade Masters" and directed towards samurai yet due to many misconceptions about samurai, I had suggested a broader term; Swordsmen. I propose speaking of both swords themselves and
Mainstream anime swords have no identity and the swordsmanship has no content and therefore the swordsmen are a vague subject that does not contribute to discussion.
If we have a relation between RL swordsmen and anime swordsmen, a balance of sorts, then I feel there would be more room for discussion.

so we can't talk about anime swords

-.- That's not what I am saying. I mean to talk about anime swords was the idea in mind when this group was created right? That would be silly. You must not have read all of what I said. Try reading again.

I guess no one's going to listen to my advice and the group is dead.

So long.

Bullshit man, you're the owner and it's your responsibility. If you don't have the time, fine then just close the group, but don't avoid responsibility and throw it at the members. That's cowardly and low.

Man up, bro. You had expert advice and a great team of devoted mods and there's no reason why with a little effort and a bit of time, which by damn I know you have atleast 30 minutes a day, this place couldn't be the shit.

Either accept the responsibility of this group's failure and close it by kicking all the members, secreting it, and leaving; or put some time and effort and listen to the advice.

Mods can only do so much without an owner being active and members can do even less. Members have absolutely no responsibility to a group they belong to and the mods only have as much responsibility as the owner takes themself.

If I can successfully manage three popular groups and moderate 4 more when I have a near 50 hour a week job, freelancing projects on the side, the responsibility of an assistant instructor in two arts at a dojo, AND a social life every weekend, then you have not a damn reason you can't do something about this group especially with my help no less.

But you take the moderator's help for granted.

An owner is the pillar in which a group grows around like vines. If the pillar is weak, it will fall and the vines will break. But if the pillar is strong, all one has to do to cultivate the fruit from the vines is water it once a day, which takes no time at all, and prune it every once in awhile which only takes a bit of effort.

A moderator is the pruning shears and the water pail. The vines cannot be watered and pruned if the damn pillar is to weak to hold the vines and crumbles, can they?

If you want to make this shit work, then you need to learn that you cannot expect the mods and the members to make a group successful for you. You gotta put your back into it and take responsibility over all.

I have managed and moderated online communities ranging from minuscule little hobby groups like this all the way to full blown sociological environments. All it takes for a group like this is about 30 minutes to an hour a day from the owner to come and set an example. You cannot expect what you do not first give. Come on, make some new threads, socialize, reply to all posts you can, and cultivate the group by maintenance which entails reviving stagnant threads, steering conversations back on target, and coming up with new ideas or asking for suggestions. You have mods to work around the clock when you're not around emulating your duties and making sure everything runs smoothly. It isn't work, it's simple and takes hardly any time.

But if you take your mods or members for granted or get stuck up and think you should be able to kick back and relax while people do the job for you because you made the group and that should be enough, then you're not worthy of having a group.

If you want to make this work, and listen to some good advice for a change, I will return and help you make this an awesome kickass place full of activity and fun stimulating conversation.

However, if you don't give a damn, close the group and sod off, because I am sure as hell not going to waste my time trying to make your group successful while you sit around taking my time for granted.
And if you can't manage the time and effort to make a simple little non important group like this work, I can't see how you could successfully do anything in life.

So you throw your time in, and I have your back. If not, then I truly do pity you.
Think about that my brother.

Either way I wish you good luck in your life.

So, do you not have any comments, questions, or suggestions? Any kind of response for all that I wrote in the initial post?

Well if you would read that post I spent so much time on, it would shed some light on several problems of this group.

Secondly, you have to cultivate activity. You have to make topics and replies that warrant conversations rather than quick answers that do not go anywhere.

That I can easily help you with. Perhaps you should just worry about reviving topics and posting conversation starters and leave the rest to me for now.

To revive a thread here are the steps. You find a thread that suffers inactivity or absence of actual discussion. You look for the source. It could be that the thread is lacking questions that challenge the users to actually converse but rather they just throw in one word answers without explaining them.

Then you can do several things, but I will give you one example for now as I feel you should just try out new ways to get people to have a discussion rather than just post dead end comments.

Make a new post about a question or something and ask for the users to explain. When they respond, you respond back. If someone does not explain, ask them to. Provide feedback and additional questions and comments and thus you have sparked a discussion.

Oh, I might need to be made a mod again, or I can't quite be of much help.
