well... I use Linux , it's more reliable than windows ... I'm not a really a computer genius, actually i'm hopeless when it comes to computers, but my dad was a Linux representative in Denmark, long before it actually became known, so I guess I got my opinion from him...

There is possibly no way Linux can become more popular as a desktop computer unless either the 100$ Laptops fail or Dell's Ubuntu computers gain popularity. So till then Microsoft will dominate the computer industry with its Windows...sadly

i switched over to linux recently i really really like it! It runs so much smoother and it's more visually pleasing to eyes. The only problem was to figure out how to dual-boot i couldnt figure out how so instead i dedcied to install linux on my entire harddrive. But i lost my xp cd so if i want to install windows again(wich i hope to never do) i'll have to either borrow a cd or buy vista i can also use wine but its pretty buggy for now not all programs work.

I've used Fedora, SuSe, Ubuntu, RedHat, OpenSuse and all of them are pretty good for a beginner in Linux systems.

I use linux too, well i still use XP in a virtual machine but im almost 100% percent converted. Just wish linux can work on some of there programs instead of effects(i do love to show off tho), because linux really needs some better video editing software, cinelerra is ok but a Bad interface, has a skinnable one tho but still crashes alot. and wine is getting better.

I'm trying out Ubuntu by using the Wubi program.
Got a few questions:
1. How do you use Wine and what is it?
2. When I view webpages they are not aligned, looks weird (can I change this?)
3. When I try to play a DVD in the movie player it says that cannot read from the resource (help!)

I'd really appreciate help, and if you know of another ubuntu help forum I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!

i had it on my old comp... but i was a huge game junky and i couldnt get my fav site to work, even using programs like wine, so i switched to XP. I still prefer linux, but its not as if windows is giving me a hard time yet either. I keep my computer activity on low lvls, most of the time its just me watching anime or something.

Wine is basically a program that lets you install and use window's software onto your linux.

"allowing many unmodified Windows programs to run on linux"- check it out in google

and what browser are you using? Firefox 3 beta works perfectly though i do have a slight problem with CR but thats only slight. i dunno how to fix it though...

and that thing about the DVC i'm not sure. it when i installed ubuntu it worked perfectly. maybe its wubi?

i'm still a newbie

ps wubi is NOT apart of ubuntu corporation if that makes sense. the best thing to do is order or download ubuntu 8.04 which also lets you test ubuntu without having to install or change anything. its basically a bootable live CD. with it you can test firefox 3 beta and see how it looks.

Linux is basically a operating system, just like Windows and Mac, though its Open sources meaning everything is free, and anyone can changed or modify it and pass their development onto others etc..
