Nah, doesn't matter. Anyway, I already answered your question.

"The references are already censored by the time the show was aired in Japan."

I am certain it has something to do with license issues and such...

Try Veoh.com or googling Watch Hayate no Gotoku (im not being sarcastic :sweatingbullets:)
If you have VeohTV, searching is a whole lot easier,

anyway, I think they stopped airing HnG, but it got licensed before they finished subbing it. (I think Ep 48 was the last subbed one)

Back on topic....

Yea... the censored words are attack moves, brand names etc. and i thought the beeping out actually added to the comic effect of the anime

... i think..
They call it "Copyright".......
(you know .. have you heard of the line.. "all rights reserve")
.

its a law to keep your work originaL..
and you can sue those who use it without your authorization...

There are lots and lots and lots of cameos of other anime in Hayate no Gotoku. A lot of the classics. My fave was ep 39 (I think) when a mecha was being launched from an Eva cage but then when it came out it looked like Gurren Lagann. Lol! I think there's some sort of list compiled in Wiki if you want to check it out. It's not just what they say but scattered throughout the series you'll see stuff. A bust of Conan and Inuyasha. Hayate's ki snappping leaves like Kenshin, the classic Ikari Gendo pose, etc etc.

No, they finished the fansubbing for all 52 eps. I think veoh has it.

I would think it is most likely because of copy right laws in Japan. The original company piggy backs on knowledge of currently existing anime a lot. And as such if they do not censor themselves they would most likely have to ask for permission to do use those names.

it has something to do with copyright laws. of course the creators would not want to get involved in copyright infringement cases.

just like in Lucky Star, whenever Konata talks with her dad about anime and games, they (meaning the creators) also bleep it out in the original. for example there was this conversation about gundam and they bleeped the names of the mecha and the pilots, too. i think they even put "mosaic" on the faces

it's just like everyone has stated already, it's basically censorship since the anime was backed by "TV Tokyo"
although the on-screen censorship is actually there as a pun and to reflect the manga (EG: the various sections where Hayate bleeds profusely), although the other censorship area that have been "bleeped" out from the things they say is because of broadcasting rules + censorship. (info taken from wiki)

Interestingly enough, the actual japanese DVDs have two vocal tracks, one is the TV broadcast track which contains all the "bleeping" while the second vocal track is totally uncensored. I should know as i bought the first 3 volumes of the dvds while i was up in japan... so far though i haven't seen anyone release fansubbing of this uncensored version (probably cause they couldn't be bothered resubbing the series again or something, who knows)

the only thing people can hope for is that when "Bandai Entertainment" releases this on the market they'd be release both japanese vocal tracks on their dvds or maybe even release the uncensored alone.....

haven't u been reading the posts after the main topic? it was for copyright reasons.

and yea, i like it when the censor stuff, and i notice things that i know of like
"This campus is as big as Vana****!" Vana'diel being the world of Final Fantasy XI
also when Hayate is preparing to fight that weak master in the dojo, while trying to get Nagi to join the kendo club
"Hiten - " (the beginning of Hiten Mitsurugi Style from Rirouni Kenshin)
and the master said "Stop, don't go any further due to copyright reasons!"

some parts of the show say it themselves, all those beeps are for copyright reasons.

Yes, I agree, the censored words add to the comic effect of the anime and it's kinda fun trying to piece references that you recognise =)

and it's censorship from the anime producers themselves. While copyright issues are at stake, it probably is also to poke fun at the copyright issues themselves.
