I was watching the news (a rarity for me) when I saw this bit about a Texan that saw two men breaking into his neighbor's house. He called the police to alert them to the burglary then said "I have a shot gun, do you want me to stop them?"

The police said not to leave his house or put himself in danger. The police had not yet arrived and the men were leaving the house with the items they had stolen. Then he told the police that he wasn't going to let them get away with it and ignored further instructions not to leave his house, going out and quickly shooting both men. "I had to do it, they came onto my lawn" he said. One man was in the neighbors front lawn and the other was in the street.

This man is not being charged with anything and city officials are calling him a hero. I think this is horrid, and the man obviously wanted to kill those men. But that might just be me. Here's the link to the clip I saw:

*Shortened your link because it was stretching the page =) -mauz15-

It is legal in the US to shoot intruders, as far as I know. But when it's done with such intent it undermines our right to bear arms. So what do you think? Justifiable or not?

blablabla - Why do you think so? I'm not saying your right or wrong, but being on the other end I wonder how you come to that conclusion.

coreyb - Thank you, I searched for gun control and didn't find anything. 2nd ammendment didn't even cross my mind.

I saw that news lol (yeah, I'm from Texas), the old guy calls the cops and says, "I got a shutgun, I'm going to shoot them," and you can hear him shoot the guys, lol.

What's even worse is the burglars were black and I forgot what organization (something about black protection) is now trying to charge the man for being racist (old guy is white, typical drill). We talked about it doing Economics class.

There was another news that one of the best teachers at Clements High Physics who even got best teacher of the year got fired because they found out he was gay. The reason is his ex-boyfriend and him got in a fight where they broke up and he started advertising a gay porn site with them in it and it got to Clement's website somehow (pictures started being put on walls too at Clements, mainly bathroom). It kind of sucked, but I think the guy wanted to quit anyway out of humiliation.

Edit: As for the old man shooting them, I could've sworn the guy said that he was going to shoot them because they were stealing literally TV Sets, furniture, and other worthwhile things. The guy probably shouldn't of shot them straight off the bat, but obviously call the cops and wait for them. IF the perpetrators were to start driving away, I would've shot their tires and just leave it at that.

I don't think he needed to shoot them...that's just plain stupidity, taking it a bit too far.

"They stole somethin', they got a bag of somethin' I ain't lettin' them get away with it. I'm gonna kill 'em"

"You hear the shot gun click and I'm goin."

"I had no choice, they came in the front yard with me, I had no choice."

No indication of rascism, but every indication of a choice and intent.

That sucks about the teacher though. I hate to think about the bigotry that still runs rampant among us.

In this case, no the man did not do the right thing, and yes according to the law in most states he should be charged. In some states it is even illegal for you to shoot an intruder in your own home, unless you are attacked first. Essentially, the Second Amendment is there to allow people to protect the well being of themselves, their family, and their property - this man was doing none of those.

@ Poopkeeper: There was an instance in Albany, NY three years ago when cops tried to shoot out a guys tires and missed, only to kill an innocent bystander almost 3 blocks away...So yeah, not always the best idea, unless you know you are absolutely going to hit the tires...

@ coreyb: This is different; the 2nd Amendment thread is discussing just that where as this is more along the lines of a legal issue - not a constitutional one. ---> At least that is the way I see it, but then again I don't really matter as I am not a mod...

EDIT to below: You even forgot the 5th Amendment? "Pleading the Fifth" ring any bells?

*chuckles* yes, gun control and search and seizure ammendments are so interchangable.

But then... I had to look that up. At one point I could have quoted the Bill of Rights to you ver batum. Now I've forgotten the order of all but the first two.

Well what can you expect from state legislatiors that aimed to give blind men the right to hunt with laser sights? I'm not insulting all Texans, mind you. But I think they're pushing the envelope a bit to far with liberal gun control rights.

oooh ooh. this happened not too far from me.

i think this was murder. someone got too trigger happy.

but then again, the two burglars should have never been there in the first place.

but then again, texas state law authorizes one to shoot to defend their property or a neighbors property

no point in having a gun... i'll just carry some bombs wrapped around my chest if that law were implemented. you kill me? you blow me up? i'll blow you up =)

honestly guns just raise the bar to average power... sooner or later, everybody will be carrying gatling guns. or perhaps have their own fighter jet.
