Pokemon, Digimon, and Yugioh all came from Japan. Ditto. I think they all are cherry picking. Not all animes are mature themed just like not all western cartoons are like the smurfs. You're picking genres in anime you like and are comparing them to genres in western cartoons that you don't like or that shouldn't even be compared. How about comparing Marvel anime X-men to the original X-men? Or Young Justice to Naruto or some other action anime. Young Justice brings the cleverness and action that has been missing from Western cartoons since X-men in my opinion. People shouldn't be so dismissive of things when they know little about it. |

Calling anime the same as cartoons is like saying board games are the same as video games. It's completely ignorant, and just shows that someone has no idea what they're talking about. It irritates me as well when I hear it, and I've heard it from quite a few people.

Insisting that Anime is not cartoons is like saying that comic books are not art. It's completely Hipster, and just shows that someone is desperate to prove that the cartoons they are attached to are so much better than the 'crap' they dislike. It makes me laugh when I hear it because I really think people who think that way would be happier if they got over themselves. |

Both with their own style to make those |

That's a value judgement not the real definition People buy into that judgement however and that's when they get mad when their 'way cool show' get called cartoons. because they think they're getting their "Way cooler than American Kid shows" ART described as American Kid Shows. |

Whoever keeps talking about how adult or good anime is, should go back to preschool because the damn topic has nothing to do with what the animated characters do, but with weither it's made with ink and paint or whatever people use these days! The next person to mention how animes are better or have adult situations is going to get it and get it hard! what this preson said they are just cartoons only diff is some come from japan some come from the us and other places |

There is a difference, thats just how it is.
If someone asks you if you watch cartoons, you will think of The simpsons, futurama, family guy or the looney toons. You will not directly think of anime. <<< i know i generalize this somewhat but thats just how it is. When someone asks you the same about anime, you will think of Bleach,Sword art Online or whatever. You just cant say they are the same thing. Also. cartoons never have an actual story or character development. |

When someone asks you the same about anime, you will think of Bleach,Sword art Online or whatever. You just cant say they are the same thing. Also. cartoons never have an actual story or character development. Anime is a form of cartoon, which is a form of animation. So technically cartoons do have actual stories and character development. Now, there are cartoons in places outside Japan that have both of those things. An example is Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel, The Legend of Korra. In France, there is Oban Star Racers and Code Lyoko. As for the difference, the real difference is that anime is a style of animation (cartoon) originating from Japan and it's the abbreviated form of the Japanese word for animation, animēshiyon. To summarize they are the same thing, which is simply animation, and whether it be 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional it doesn't matter. Animation in this sense is defined as the "Process of giving the illusion of movement to drawings, models, or inanimate objects". |
