Anime is different from cartoons!
|
Cartoon: A typically non-realistic or semi-realistic drawing or painting intended for satire, caricature, or humor, or to the artistic style of such works. Anime is a type of cartoon... Explain to me a reason why you think it isnt. |

For me there is a huge difference between Cartoons and Anime, mostly the themes, target age, and overall styles, i mean think about it, we have Paper and we have Cardboard, Cardboard is made from the same materials as Paper but is done differently, and we don't call it paper we call it CARDBOARD?! OK that is my opinion

When someone asks you the same about anime, you will think of Bleach,Sword art Online or whatever. You just cant say they are the same thing. Also. cartoons never have an actual story or character development. Anime is a form of cartoon, which is a form of animation. So technically cartoons do have actual stories and character development. Now, there are cartoons in places outside Japan that have both of those things. An example is Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel, The Legend of Korra. In France, there is Oban Star Racers and Code Lyoko. As for the difference, the real difference is that anime is a style of animation (cartoon) originating from Japan and it's the abbreviated form of the Japanese word for animation, animēshiyon. To summarize they are the same thing, which is simply animation, and whether it be 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional it doesn't matter. Animation in this sense is defined as the "Process of giving the illusion of movement to drawings, models, or inanimate objects". Yeah what she said! |

If we use a fancy brush and old fashioned ink we might call it calligraphy. If we draw a picture on it. it's a drawing. It's still a drawing weather we use charcoal, soft graphite 'art pencils', Sharpie markers or chalk. You've decided that Anime is a drawing made of the finest art pens, while cartoon is the word for something done with four crayolas and a one dollar Bic Pen. Your insistence that your drawing is different (and better) is simple elitism. |

Actually i was using it as an example not a direct comparison , and calling me an elitist from that statement is showing your own colors since i never stated anything about one being better than the other, just being different.... i watch cartoons and anime, but i've found out that in general conversation, you would have to split anime from cartoons in order to explain it properly to people that have never watched anime (i've ended up making a few people start watching anime this way), anyway i will stick on the side that it is different no matter what OK? |

If you aren't making a value judgement, then you are the exception rather than the rule. everyone else who posts that 'Anime is different from cartoons!!!!' seems upset about the comparison. That says more about them, than it does about the subject matter. Also, "my true colours?" please DO enlighten me. I've not hid my stance nor my rationale on this subject in any of the posts I've made to this thread. |

argentlupe wrote: Anime is a term used by people who are afraid/embarrassed that they watch cartoons. I don't know about that, I think depending where you're from you're probably better off saying you like to watch cartoons rather than anime. On point though, Anime is just another style of Cartoons....I am sure that has been said to no end throughout this thread though. |

Anime has more drama and life problems than Cartoons.
