So then I am curious about how the rest of the world chooses anime to watch. I am going to guess Netflix or some other movie service but I don't have that.

For me choosing a new anime is well random. I may read the description on the back of a DVD or a box set. And I may look at a few reviews but in the end I tend to just grab anime off the shelf and watch.

Buying dubbed anime is a risk in and of itself, since anime can be very expensive. So I am wondering what methods others may have for choosing anime to purchase?

I get all of it for free, through torrents or veoh. so why pay for it, if you can get it for free ?

I know this awesome website which tells me ALL the anime present in this world. I can search some anime via categories like Romance, Comedy, Drama, School life, etc. in there... All are listed in alphabetical order...from A-Z...
The site also tells a certain anime's story plot, characters, etc.

It also lists some anime that will come out in the near future... In my case, this web told me about Spice and Wolf, Rosario+Vampire, Nagasarete Airantou, and Sola, etc. long before these anime came out.

I don't need to bother anyone asking "What are the newest anime? What are the upcoming anime? Do u know any interesting anime to watch?" etc...

Yes but who cares ? I mean even if it is licensed, you can still get it. And for free most if the time.

Nah... It is illegal if u upload it (when it is copyrighted by others) in other web... it's OK to just download them for personal use...

Me too, I get anime vids free.

a very good tip for those neophite otakus out there:
GO WITH YOUR GENRE

until you can move to another kind of anime, stick to your preference first (advisable is do 1 genre, then add some others with it)

lets say you like comedy (lucky star, kyouran kazoku nikki, sayonara zetsubo), watch those anime until satisfied. then add another genre, for example romance (fushigi yuugi, kanon, clannad). romance + comedy = romantic comedy (onegai teacher/twins, chobits, zero no tsukaima). then, try another combo, w/ or w/o comedy in it.

Important thing in searching for anime is that you have fun and satisfied.

some other tip for searching:
google - basics of everyone who wants to look for anything
discountanimedvd.com (imports and local dvds) - local, as in w/in the US
crunchyroll and/or other anime sites - watch w/in the 1st to 3rd eps, if not aroused (not sexually, perv) move on. reading first the comments and forums about it helps save time. Remember - less time searching, more time watching
wikipedia.org - try looking at the summary/plot, and lets say you have a fave character in one series, look up its seiyuu/voice actor/actress's profile and see w/c anime he/she was involved in. its fun hearing the same voice in a different character time to time

HAVE FUN!

i check the sites, and read about the anime, if i find it interesting, then i'd watch it. Once i watch most of it, if i turns out really great then i'd buy the whole series, though not all in one.
