lol. Thats a nice way to find anime. I actually use anime news network. They have a nice encyclopedia there. And I don't just start watching any anime. I usually go be the drawing style. It has to be the new kind of style, not like the old ranma style although ranma was good. It just that the drawing style back than wasn't as catchy as the new style of drawing.

I watch by season (new shows I watch first). the way I decide is based on genre, art and animation. watch the first few episodes, if I like it I'll keep watching

I go to the crunchyroll index (the old one located here: http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime/?tab=index )
Open all the anime ten at a time in alphabetical order, read the description, copy the names of whichever ones sound interesting, and paste them into a text file.

Watch the first episode of all the series' in the text file.
Copy the names of all the ones I liked into a new text file, but keep the old text file, so I know which interesting anime I've clicked on before.

Number the anime in the new text file.
Use an online random number generator to choose which series I should watch.

I have watched entirely way too much anime so I don't run into many new ones unless they are recently made (still only fansubed with few episodes) but because of that I tend to try any new anime (even the ones that look bad). A general rule of thumb that I go by is to at least watch 1-2 episodes. You should be able to make a pretty good judgement as to weather you would like it or not. That's why I think even the licensed anime should allow at least the first few episodes to still be watched as a way to get people interested enough to buy the series.

Methods for finding and watching new animes are...
#1: I check out animes my friends on cr or other friends recommend to me
#2: If I randomly come across what looks like a pic, scene, or any type of advertising for an anime and I like it or am at least interested, then I try the anime
#3: If I like what I see (if an anime has animation that looks appealing to me) then I'll try it out
#4: If the genres of the anime include ecchi, romance, comedy, or shonen then most of the time I'll try it out, or when I get the chance to
#5: If I hear good reviews online about the anime

finding really good anime i think is kinda hard!
if i really like an anime i'll look up who ever made it and hope i can find something else theirs of that i like...
But i'm really fussy and about good animation.
and i like it if its romance!

for me I don't care about the graphics(how well it's drawn) if it's a very good story which makes sense I would watch it even if the anime doesn't have fighting seen or if it's pure talk if the story is good I'd watch it... it's like buying a book you don't buy a book because of the drawing in the cover, you buy a book for it's story...

if some people say that the first ever gundam sucks and they loved the later once then they don't know much about thing...
