i erased my post here and now im going to fix what i said.

i believe the older you get the less peer presser is on you, (well for me at least) you grow into your "social group" and u dont feel the need to impress people as much. im 16 and in 11th grade, for like the past 1 and 1/2 i didn't feel the same urge to "fit in". more or less I grew into myself. i think many people wants to be skinner. i do, but it wont kill me that im not a size 2 i just want to be healthier now.

I beg to differ on this.

I think there is peer pressure at all points in your life. It's a matter of maturity in how you deal with it. I'm 29 years old and I still see it people my age. It's sad, but it still happens. I've met people almost twice my age who were still trying to "fit in" to a group. It's human nature to want to fit in to a group that you can identify with.

the media is a huge problem. The way young girls see the super skinny models and the superstars, when a lot of younger girls dream of being cheerleaders and supermodels. i did. i wanted to be a cheerleader but i didn't want to were those spandex uniforms i thought i was too fat, so i never did it. now i see its not that huge of a deal. but its a thing that you mentally move into.
The media should lesser the amount of extremely skinny models and use healthier models. that may help.
i think this is more of a problem in North America. but maybe that's just because i see anorexia a lot in highschool .

The media plays a huge role in many eating disorders, both male and female. But honestly, blaming the media alone is an easy cop out. When it comes to minors (and for the sake of discussion, I'm going to define minor as someone under the age of 18), there is an even more crucial role model in their lives. That is their parents. Whether any adolescent or teenager wants to admit it, a lot of their world view is skewed by their parents. And if parents are permissive then they'll allow their children to try and be people like Paris Hilton... at the age of ten. I worked at Hot Topic some years ago (for those who may not be familiar with it, it's a "counter-culture" clothing store). It was just as they were re-releasing the Playboy clothing line. And there were teenagers in the store with their parents buying them Playboy gear.

And it's something that I've noticed for some time. I'm not sure if it is a phenomenon solely in the US or if it's happening across seas... but there is a lot of sexualizing of children. Maybe someone can tell me if it's solely a US thing or if it is happening elsewhere. I have theories as to why it's happening, but I'm not if it's accurate... and frankly, my world view is a bit small when it comes to this.

Eww. I couldn't imagine wearing something down to my ankles everyday. And I think the person who made this thread needs to have a better idea of how things were back in the 1800s, not that I truly know myself. But I doubt girls minds were "as clean as a whistle." Getting turned on is natural.

But today the idea of being sexy is just as much exaggerated as purity was back then. Some girls today are putting themselves at danger and are giving men the wrong idea, and I don't think they understand it when they're so young.

Now when I was still in elementary school, it sickened me the way girls would dress for picture day. So many of them wore extremely low cut skirts, and they got upset when guys flipped their skirts and took pictures. I want(ed) so bad to say, "Well what did you think was going to happen?" But now I think I understand a little better. When girls that young dress that way, they don't quite understand at the time what a male's reaction could be. They mainly focus on looking "good." My mother didn't let me dress that way, and I'm pretty glad she didn't, because those same girls I knew back then are now getting pregnant and being left with their kids by the men they thought they loved. Many if not all are also drinking underrage, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were whoring themselves around. I don't quite know what the problem is. I'm posting as a way to maybe support a good theory.

And you can call me old fashioned, but answer this. Just what does that make you?

Here is the logic; popular belief is that:
"attractive people are... Happier, more successful, have more friends, get more attention, get more dates, are quicker to be forgiven/pardoned"

This gets crashed into:
"sexy makes you attractive to the opposite sex and thus half of the world"

Which turns into:
"Sexy can get me everywhere in the world"

I know that, to a limited extent, these popular beliefs are made to be true, regardless of whether or not they are (see: stereotypes). But I'd hate to think the whole world was one big Miss America pageant.

My girl isn't like that though , she hate the way girl nowaday dressed , she said the girl clothes of before doesn't exist anymore , and why every clothes in the store are too tight , some are too short , and the pants can't even go up enough to hide your umbilicus .
Why does most girls have to follow each other to dress in fashion, and the person who didn't follow them actually the one being left alone.

When we were teens most of us followed the Madonna and Cobain dress code. Parents and adults either squint their eyes or raised an eyebrow since they cannot grasp our fashion choice. Seeing kids of today makes me hurl sometimes... but what the hell, this is what evolution is good or bad it is screaming in our faces wishes not to be ignored.

As for the fat issue, society cannot dictate how much you should ONLY weigh.. unless you let them.

Those are girls who weren't hugged enough as young children. Daddy either didn't love them enough, or loved them too much.
