For a hypothetical subtitler, would you prefer them to be better in Japanese or English?

For someone to subtitle your anime show, would you rather they were excellent in Japanese, or English? (Assuming they had a decent/good knowledge of the other language.)

Which is more important for you?

I prefer English over Japanese. By the way, this sounds like a VS thread.

lol, didn't even think of that. But it's not which is better, because there definitely is no better one it's just each individual's opinion on it.

A VS thread clearly is based on opinions. For example, Gintama or Busou Renkin. Some people states Gintama, while other states Busou Renkin. But whatever, the mods decide.

english I guess cause I can look up things that are being said but if I don't know english well my grammar and subject verb agreement will be wrong.

I know, that's why I was unsure whether to report this or not since I wasn't fully understanding the thread as a VS (Note: this sounds like a VS thread). Stated from before:

But whatever, the mods decide

as long as they translate the RAW vids in english my life is easier.
Posted 9/17/08
If it's got good editing, it doesn't matter where the translators come from.
Although you wouldn't want to go as far as commercial subbing does, changing cultural references/jokes etc..
