My friend who watched D Gray Man only recently, asked me why Allen sounds like a female. She even have doubts about his gender o.O I have no idea how to answer her so i posted this question here. I hope you guys out there can help me out (:

Some of the characters in animes are voiced by females, like Allen walker from D Gray Man and Miharu from Nabari No Ou. (although there might be more out there, i didn't mention) They make them sound good, but sometimes its kinda girlish.. They are male after all, why do they need a female to voice their parts?

Well, I think it is to make them sound good. Erm, my opinion is lame, so please help my friend out (:

You know few animes, I believe.

^Listen to his voice. You'll mistake his voice as a true male, not a female even though she is voiced by Ryoko Shiraishi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryoko_Shiraishi);

and to his voice. He is voiced by Marina Inoue (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marina_Inoue).

hmm..to make them more appealing to audiences who are looking for the pretty boy image of anime chars? Allen Walker is also voiced by a female, so is Yuki Rito.

i think because of there personality! the maker must be precise on what voice would dub the anime character the best! like Ryoma and Fuji are dubbed by female voice!

Female voice suit some male character the best
Like Naruto from Naruto and Naruto Shippuden
Ryoma and Fuji from Prince of Tennis
Allen Walker voice is like male to me but i like it

This will make anime more interesting and nicer

ummm.. probably coz the girls who dub them sound cool?

XD

and probably since there are other anime that are bishounen... XD and their voice needs to be a mixture.. like wolfram's voice.. XD *though i don't know who dubbed his voice* and okita souji's voice *i also don't know who dubbed his voice*

gets?

Some males are meant to be seen as more feminine than masculine so they use female voices to emulate that.

It's probably because if they got a male voice actor his voice would be too for the character and only a kid's voice would fit the character and you can't really take a kid from school and say "you're gonna voice Luffy for 10 years" now can you? lol. So they get women to do the young male voices...that's what I think anyway

Al from FMA is voiced by Rie Kugimiya.
for a young brother sound, it's quite good.

well, they are professionals, so they know how to use their voice. It dosn't really matter to me.. the only thing that bugs me is when I read manga I tend to imagene the characters voices a certain way, and that dosn't always fit so weel with the anime version.. Like Kenshin (I know the manga said he had a girlie voice, but holy crap!)
