your skin color!
Posted 9/21/08
Hello,

Skin color should not matter. Skin color should be the least of our worries. I think we should stop with the color of our skin because it has had a long history... of violence. Discrimination and all. Skin color should not be one of our worries. I have a sister who was discriminated because of her color. In fact she was so scared about other's that she started to hate caucasion's. She had such a strong resentment towards them. She still to this day has not stopped. It's unfortunate that some people live in this cycle of fear.

We are a diverse society. Stop racism!

Skin Color does not matter

Whether black, white, copper skinned, brown or any other color, we are all equal.. color is just color.. it doesn't measure the intelligence of a person..

it hurts but stereotyping, discrimination and racism still does exist.. and being the youth today and tomorrows adults, we should instill in our mind that color doesn't matter.. and the rest will follow..

It irritates me how there are some people who can't just live with their skin color and try to change it... just because it's a fad to be that skin color in their country, etc. :/

Dark skin = more melanin

More melanin = lower risk for skin cancer

Low risk for skin cancer = longer life

Longer life = win!!

That's all there is to it. Discrimination because of skin color is simply pathetic. Racism leads to animosity, and that isn't at all desirable.

Oh and I am Asian so go figure out my skin color. =)

Nope it doesn't matter, but people like you asking this type of question want to hear "Yes, I'm racist." Anywhere I go and there is a black person fighting the person always says "Because I'm black?"

I'm not agaisn't color or none of that. I have friends from different race, but people like you....make others look you guys bad.

i dont really think that skin colour really does matter but we all know it influences us a bit consciously and unconsciously like almost any other thing(since we are human). i kinda find it weird how most people call your race african-american i mean why arent you guys called negroids?is it offensive? i know it sounds like negro(is that offensive? some of my friends find it so..) or is become like a colloquial/slang kinda term.

yes negro is offensive to me! actuallly its offensive 2 us! and we use african american because its a better way to call our selves that! i dont jus say imma black! i use african american!

wow i didnt know that i thought it was normal to call people caucasian, oriental, negroid... explains why i keep getting hit. i thought it would have any real offense since i didnt mean it with any bad intentions. and i just read after recieving your reply that the etymology for negro has to do with failure... im sorry bout that no bad intentions (or so i say) lulz your posts are so colourful

Well, first off Negroids sounds retarded. Second, its a word derived from the word Negro, which is a offensive term. Also, unlike other race's, its just grouping every dark skin person together, rather then by geographical and biological differences. So, scientifically speaking you would be right, but politically speaking you would get your ass jumped.

Omfg some girls have this light silky skin that goes perfect with there body and face's, and some girls have this brownish skin thats really smooth and doesn't look peely because its natural and not a tan, and lots more. Er, so I guess skin color can make chicks hotter or notter?

"Negroid" or "negro" would be the more proper word, but since negro was a common term used to describe us back in the pre-civil rights era when we were treated like crap, a lot of people find it offensive. I don't really care, it just sounds weird to me.

I don't like the term African-American either, since it implies that we or our families migrated from Africa recently and that we are still pure or mostly-African. Many of us who are descendants of slaves have no idea what African country we originated in, and our bloodlines have been mixed so much with others throughout history that we're not even close to fully African anymore. I prefer the term black, since it's a more vague and general term to describe our vague lineage. Most black people who prefer to be called African-American and think that being called "black" is offensive are just ignorant, self-righteous crybabies who like to raise hell every time a non-black person says "nigger", and throw the race card every time they feel like they're being "mistreated."

In case some of you didn't figure it out, I'm black.

Actually, the term and classification "negroid" is very old and no longer used as a racial category. Even if it were still in use, it could only refer to the biological classification, not the social classification. So calling someone "negroid" is, in both instances, outdated.

Secondly, there's no such thing as being "fully" African. Africans have intermixed with Europeans and Asians for centuries upon centuries, and these people have spread their genes across the continent through migration. Colonization and ports along the coasts have also created cities and places where Africans, Indians, Asians and Europeans have mixed. The entire world is mixed, buddy, including Africa. Having a few more non-black ancestors doesn't make African Americans extremely different from Africans, anyway.

People who are born in Africa then come to the U.S later in their lives are actually from Africa (kind of what I meant by "fully" African), so it makes more sense to call them African-Americans than people who's ancestors were forced to come here hundreds of years ago and can't even figure out what African country they are originally from. White Americans who's ancestors migrated here a long time ago don't really refer to themselves as Irish-American or Scottish-American or whatever country they came from, they're just called white or caucasian or American. Most of them don't really practice the same cultures and traditions or even speak the same language of their countries of origins. They were born and raised in American culture, so it doesn't make sense to group them with Irish or Scottish people who've recently moved to the U.S and are still holding on to their native cultures. The same can be said about black people.
