I just think its harder to create a place for that kind of relationship - than let's say - school, clubs, etc. - because you're all close in age.
I don't think so, though. I have a good friend whose a good couple of decades older than me.  |

I don't think so. I'm 17 and I have friends who are 36. Also, it's a plus because they're older and in most cases, wiser. They can do what parents can do for you without the awkwardness of talking about it with them.

My best friend is almost almost 11 years older than me.
I do think its harder for friends with big age gaps though. But its not impossible or even that uncommon for friends to have large age gaps.
In my situation its difficult because in my field of work most of the people or so much older than me and we have nothing in-common, but I know if they knew more about me and my interests are that I had friend who was 17 they'd frown upon it and talk behind my back about me being strange. Its hard not being able to be your-self at work.
Prime example is what you wear and how you look I hate having to conform to society but I know if I didn't where some nice khaki slacks suit jacket I would find or keep a job. It's different when your a teenager though. Its the perfect time to explorer and do whatever you want because when your older you can't always do that and be successful. I don't understand why some parents get so upset about kids dying their hair and doing cosplay.

My rule of thumb... If you are under 16 then yeah, age plays a bit of a part (Only family friends and relatives over 20) :D. Other than that tis fair game.
