I use a mac, so it has international font texts in it. I can even write in arabic and herbrew, which I find useless.

I'm not sure, but the most popular i've heard is NJstar. Problem with it is that I don't think it comes free (at least the version with all the good features. The shareware isn't all that good).

The nice thing with the mac version is that you don't need to learn how to type the way Japanese type. I write "ko" and ”こ” pops out. If I write it "Ko" (with a capital letter), the katakana ”コ” appears instead. And if I write a sentence with kanji:

"kono sekai no suteki na monogatari" (lyrics from a song. :P)

Predictive text input will fill in the appropriate Kanji:

この世界の素敵な物語。

This is a silly solution, but get a mac. wahaha! I think we're going off topic here.

I hear the "kusou" sound (don't know if that's the right romanji) and it's usually translated into a buhjillion different things, like "shit", "bastard" and lots of other dirty words. I have a funny feeling it was just added by the dubber. :P

I also know "shimata" has several different meanings as well.

PM the guy who started this thread (I think it was kira14) that you're interested. :P

BTW, I think it's related anyway, but can anyone tell me the difference between using "hikari" and "hikaru" (光). I know they both mean the same thing, but why does there have to be a difference in spelling/pronunciation?

Or an easier solution, go to Control Panel and hit Regional and Language Settings. Play around with the last tab, check everything related to "Japanese." I think you also need to hit 'install files for east asian languages' in the second tab. Then in like keyboard settings or something, hit "add" and select Japanese from the list...

I know my instructions are vague, but if you need more help then google it. :]

Wow... talk about necroposting...

For the benefit of those who've seen this only now, PM kira14 that you're interested in joining. I'm not sure, though, if he'll agree, since this started a month ago, and he's currently with his dad, whose in the hospital, so I haven't heard from him since then. For now, the lessons are on hold for the time being. If you'd like to catch up (since kira's going to give an exam), brush up on basic Japanese Hiragana (how to write and read/pronounce it).
